Bleeding

Print

  1. Perform the air bleeding procedure as necessary after replacing the steering gear, power steering pump or the steering fluid lines.
  2.
  3. Raise and support the front of the vehicle so the front wheels are off the ground.
  4.
  5. Disconnect the ignition coil connectors. For more information, refer to the Engine Electrical Section.
    WARNING
Perform air bleeding only while cranking the engine. If air bleeding is performed while the engine is running, air could enter the fluid. During air bleeding, refill the steering fluid supply so that the level never falls below the lower mark on the dipstick.

  6.
  7. Turn the steering wheel all the way to the left and right five or six times while using the starter motor to crank the engine intermittently several times (for no more than 15 to 20 seconds).
  8.
  9. Connect the ignition coil connectors.
  10.
  11. Start the engine and let it idle.
  12.
  13. Turn the steering wheel from the left to the right until there are no air bubbles in the oil reservoir.
  14.
  15. Make sure the power steering fluid is not milky, and that the level is between the high and low dipstick marks.
  16.
