Lower Control Arms

Bushing Replacement



  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.  
  3. Raise and support the vehicle safely. Remove the tire and wheel assembly.
  4.  
  5. Remove the lower control arm and place in a vise.
  6.  
  7. Using a bushing removal tool remove the bushing from its mounting
  8.  

To install:


NOTE
Coat the bushing with a soap solution and take care not to twist.

  1. Using the bushing installation tool, press the bushing into the bracket.
  2.  
  3. Install the lower control arm.
  4.  
  5. Install the tire and wheel assembly. Lower the vehicle.
  6.  

Removal & Installation




NOTE
The suspension components should not be fully tightened until the vehicle's weight is resting on its wheels.

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.  
  3. Raise and safely support the vehicle.
  4.  
  5. Remove or disconnect the following:

    Control link, after matchmarking its installed position
     
    Mounting bolt and upper control arm
     
    Stabilizer link nut and separate the link from the lower control arm
     

  6.  
  7. Support the lower control arm with a jack, remove the retaining bolts and separate the lower control arm from the trailing arm.

    Lower control arm

To install:

  1. Install or connect the following:

    Lower control arm and secure the retainers hand-tight only at this time
     
    Shock absorber to the lower control arm. Secure with the nut and bolt and tighten until just snug
     
    Lower control arm to the trailing arm. Secure the retainers hand-tight.
     
    Stabilizer link and secure with the nut. Tighten to 26-35 ft. lbs. (34-44 Nm).
     
    Upper arm. Install the arm so the -A- mark faces inside of the vehicle. Tighten the retainers snug. Final tightening will occur when the vehicle-s weight is on the suspension.
