Removal & Installation

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable, then the positive battery cable.
    CAUTION
    Wait at least 90 seconds after the negative battery cable is disconnected to prevent possible deployment of the air bag.

  3. Drain the engine coolant.
  4.  
  5. Remove the air cleaner assembly.

  7. Remove the battery and battery tray.
  8.  
  9. Matchmark the installed positions of the hose and hose clamp, then disconnect the lower radiator hose from the water inlet fitting.

  11. Detach the control hose electrical connection.
  12.  
  13. Remove the control wiring harness connection bracket.
  14.  
  15. Unfasten the retainer(s), then remove the water inlet fitting.
  16.  
  17. Remove the thermostat.

To install:

  1. Installation is the reverse of the removal procedure, noting the following:

    Install the thermostat so the jiggle valve is facing straight up. Be careful not to fold or otherwise damage the rubber ring.

    Refer to the fastener tightening specifications shown on the accompanying illustration.
     
    During installation of the lower radiator hose connection, insert the hose as far as the projection of the water inlet fitting. Align the matchmarks on the hose and hose clamp, then connect the hose.

    Fill the engine with the proper type and amount of engine coolant.

  3. Connect the positive, then the negative battery cables, then start the engine and check for leaks.
