TESTING

See Figures 1 and 2

  1. Remove the front center console to gain access to the G-sensor.
  2.
  3. Connect a positive terminal of a controllable power source to the G-sensor terminal 1 and a negative terminal to G-sensor terminal 3, then apply 7.3V (the limits of voltage guaranteed for operation is 7.0-7.5V).
  4.
  5. Connect a voltmeter to terminal 2 and measure the variations of voltage when the G-sensor is tipped up and down (tip the G-sensor from the normal mounting position to the position where the front face is facing straight down).
  6.

Fig. Fig. 2: With the power supply and voltmeter hooked to the connector, tilt the G-sensor as shown and measure the voltage change

  1. When the G-sensor is sitting in the position in which it is normally mounted the voltage should be 1.1-1.5V and when the G-sensor is tipped down, the voltage should be 4.6-5.0V.
  2.
  3. If the G-sensor does not register these voltages, replace the G-sensor with a new unit.
  4.

REMOVAL & INSTALLATION

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable from the battery.
  2.
  3. Remove the front center console from the Pick-up truck to gain access to the G-sensor and the System Control Unit (SCU).
  4.
  5. Disconnect the electrical wiring to the G-sensor, then loosen and remove any retaining screws from the G-sensor. Remove the G-sensor from the vehicle.
  6.
  7. The SCU is located behind the G-sensor. Disconnect the electrical wiring to the SCU, then remove the mounting screws. Extract the SCU from the vehicle.
  8.
  9. To install, connect the wiring to the SCU and mount in place with the retaining screws.
  10.
  11. Install the G-sensor with the mounting screws and connect the wiring.
  12.
  13. Install the front center console to the vehicle, then connect the negative cable to the battery.
