Mitsubishi Pick-ups and Montero 1983-1995 Repair Guide

Seat Belt Systems

See Figures 1 and 2

All the seat belt systems found on the Mitsubishi trucks (Pick-ups and Monteros) are removed and installed in generally the same manner. The system, whether the front seat belt system or the rear seat system, starts at the seat belt retractor, is routed up and through a seat belt bracket. The belt then travels to the seat, where it is attached to the seat belt buckle. The belt is routed through the buckle and then is attached to the vehicle floor. The other belt is fastened to the rear of the seat frame or to the floor, and is routed up through or around (depending on whether the seat is a bench type seat or a bucket type seat) the seat.

The seat belt mounting components (i.e. the retractor, the brackets, the floor attachment) are held in place with large bolts. To remove the system, remove any piece of trim which may be concealing the retractor. Remove the bolts mounting the retractor to the vehicle body. Remove the bolts holding the upper seat belt bracket to the upper body and the bolts holding the seat belt's other end to the floor. Remove the other belt's floor attachment bolt, and either pull the belt our through the seat, or simply remove the belt from the vehicle. If any wires are attached to the seat belt buckle, disconnect and label them.

To install:

To install, attach any wiring to the buckle, and route the belt back through the seat. Attach the mounting components with the bolts and refer to the torque chart for the correct amount to tighten them. Install any trim pieces removed during disassembly.
