Removal & Installation



  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.  
  3. Remove or disconnect the following:

    Front wheel
     
    Skid plate, if equipped
     
    Hub nut and washer
     
    Brake caliper and rotor
     
    ABS wheel speed sensor if equipped
     
    Hub bearing bolts from the knuckle
     
    Hub bearing and brake shield from the knuckle
     

  4.  
  5. Support the half shaft at the CV joint housings.
  6.  
  7. Position two pry bars behind the inner CV housing and disengage the CV joint from the axle.
  8.  
  9. Remove the half shaft from the vehicle.
  10.  

To install:

  1. Apply a light coating of wheel bearing grease on the axle splines.
  2.  
  3. Insert the half shaft stub through the steering knuckle and onto the axle. Verify the shaft snapring engages with the groove on the inside of the joint housing.
  4.  
  5. Clean the hub bearing bore and hub bearing mating surface of all foreign materials. Apply a light coating of grease to all mating surfaces.
  6.  
  7. Install the hub bearing onto the axle half shaft and steering knuckle.
  8.  
  9. Install the hub bearing bolts and tighten to 120 ft. lbs. (163 Nm).
  10.  
  11. Install the ABS wheel speed sensor, if equipped.
  12.  
  13. Install brake rotor and caliper.
  14.  
  15. Apply the brakes and tighten hub nut to 185 ft. lbs. (251 Nm).
  16.  
  17. Install the skid plate, if equipped.
  18.  
  19. Install the wheel and tire assembly.
  20.
