Disarming the System

Zone 1




CAUTION
Before disabling the SIR system, refer to SIR Service Precautions.

  1. Turn the steering wheel so that the vehicle's wheels are pointing straight ahead.
  2.  
  3. Turn OFF the ignition.
  4.  
  5. Remove the key from the ignition switch.
  6.  
  7. Open the hood and locate the underhood fuse center.
  8.  
  9. Lift the cover for the underhood fuse center.
    WARNING
    With the Air Bag Fuse removed and the ignition ON, the AIR BAG indicator illuminates. This is normal operation, and does not indicate an SIR System malfunction.

  10.  
  11. Locate and remove the air bag fuse from the underhood fuse center.
  12.  
  13. Open the front hood and locate both right and left front-end sensors (1), also known as the electronic front sensor (EFS).
  14.  
  15. Remove both connector position assurances (CPAs) from the right and left front-end sensor.
  16.  
  17. Disconnect both front-end sensor wiring harness connectors from the left and right front-end sensor (1).

  19. Open the front hood and locate both right and left front-end sensors, also known as the electronic front sensor (EFS).
  20.  
  21. Remove both connector position assurances (CPAs) from the right and left front-end sensor.
  22.  
  23. Disconnect both front-end sensor wiring harness connectors from the left and right front-end sensor.
  24.  

Zone 2




CAUTION
Before disabling the SIR system, refer to SIR Service Precautions.

  1. Turn the steering wheel so that the vehicle's wheels are pointing straight ahead.
  2.  
  3. Turn OFF the ignition.
  4.  
  5. Remove the key from the ignition switch.
  6.  
  7. Open the hood and locate the underhood fuse center.
  8.  
  9. Lift the cover for the underhood fuse center.
  10.  
  11. Locate and remove the air bag fuse from the underhood fuse center.
    CAUTION
    With the Air Bag Fuse removed and the ignition ON, the AIR BAG indicator illuminates. This is normal operation, and does not indicate an SIR System malfunction.

  13. Remove the driver/left lower center pillar trim cover.
  14.  
  15. Loosen the left side impact sensor (SIS) fasteners, then slide the left SIS (1) up and remove the sensor from the center pillar.
  16.  
  17. Remove the connector position assurance (CPA) (3) from the SIS connector (2).
  18.  
  19. Disconnect the SIS wiring harness connector (2) from the SIS (1).
  20.  
  21. Remove the CPA from the driver/left seat belt retractor pretensioner connector.
  22.  
  23. Remove the vehicle wiring harness connector from the left seat belt retractor pretensioner.

CAUTION

  1. Turn the steering wheel so that the vehicle's wheels are pointing straight ahead.

  3. Turn OFF the ignition.
  4.  
  5. Remove the key from the ignition switch.
  6.  
  7. Open the hood and locate the underhood fuse center.
  8.  
  9. Lift the cover for the underhood fuse center.
  10.  
  11. Locate and remove the air bag fuse from the underhood fuse center.
    CAUTION
    With the Air Bag Fuse removed and the ignition ON, the AIR BAG indicator illuminates. This is normal operation, and does not indicate an SIR System malfunction.

  13. Remove the driver/left instrument panel (I/P) insulator panel.
  14.  
  15. Remove the connector position assurance (CPA) from the steering wheel module coil yellow connector (1) located at the base of the steering column.
  16.  
  17. Disconnect the steering wheel module coil connector (1).
    NOTE
    Zone 4 not used on these vehicles.

CAUTION

  5. Remove the key from the ignition switch.

  9. Lift the cover for the underhood fuse center.
  10.  
  11. Locate and remove the air bag fuse from the underhood fuse center.
    CAUTION

  13. Remove the passenger/right instrument panel (I/P) insulator panel.
  14.  
  15. Remove the connector position assurance (CPA) (2) from the I/P module yellow connector (1).
  16.  
  17. Disconnect the I/P module connector (1).

  13. Remove the passenger/right lower center pillar trim cover.
  14.  
  15. Loosen the right side impact sensor (SIS) fasteners, then slide the right SIS (1) up and remove from the center pillar.
  16.  
  17. Remove the connector position assurance (CPA) (3) from the SIS connector (2).
  18.  
  19. Disconnect the SIS wiring harness connector (2) from the SIS (1).
  20.  
  21. Remove the CPA from the passenger/right seat belt retractor pretensioner connector.
  22.  
  23. Remove the vehicle wiring harness connector from the right seat belt retractor pretensioner.
  24.  

Zone 7




CAUTION
Before disabling the SIR system, refer to SIR Service Precautions.

  1. Turn the steering wheel so that the vehicle's wheels are pointing straight ahead.
  2.  
  3. Turn OFF the ignition.
  4.  
  5. Remove the key from the ignition switch.
  6.  
  7. Open the hood and locate the underhood fuse center.
  8.  
  9. Lift the cover for the underhood fuse center.
    CAUTION
    With the Air Bag Fuse removed and the ignition ON, the AIR BAG indicator illuminates. This is normal operation, and does not indicate an SIR system malfunction.

  11. Locate and remove the air bag fuse from the underhood fuse center
  12.  
  13. Remove the connector position assurance (CPA) (3) from the LF/driver side impact module yellow connector (3), which is located under the driver seat.
  14.  
  15. Disconnect the vehicle harness connector (4) from the LF side impact module connector (1).
    NOTE
    Zone 8 not used with these vehicles.

CAUTION
Before disabling the SIR system, refer to SIR Service Precautions.

  1. Turn the steering wheel so that the vehicle's wheels are pointing straight ahead.
  2.  
  3. Turn OFF the ignition.
  4.  
  5. Remove the key from the ignition switch.
  6.  
  7. Open the hood and locate the underhood fuse center.
  8.  
  9. Lift the cover for the underhood fuse center.
    CAUTION
    With the Air Bag Fuse removed and the ignition ON, the AIR BAG indicator illuminates. This is normal operation, and does not indicate an SIR system malfunction.

  11. Locate and remove the air bag fuse from the underhood fuse center.
  12.  
  13. When disabling only the side impact module - RF proceed to step 21. If the entire SIR system needs to be disabled, then go to step 7.
  14.  
  15. Remove the driver/left lower center pillar trim cover.
  16.  
  17. Remove the connector position assurance (CPA) from the driver/left seat belt retractor pretensioner connector.
  18.  
  19. Remove the vehicle wiring harness connector from the left seat belt retractor pretensioner.
  20.  
  21. Remove the driver/left instrument panel (I/P) insulator panel.
  22.  
  23. Remove the CPA from the steering wheel module coil yellow connector, located at the base of the steering column.
  24.  
  25. Disconnect the steering wheel module coil connector.
  26.  
  27. Remove the CPA (3) from the LF/driver side impact module yellow connector (3), which is located under the driver seat.
  28.  
  29. Disconnect the vehicle harness connector (4) from the LF side impact module connector (1).
  30.  
  31. Remove the passenger/right instrument panel (I/P) insulator panel.
  32.  
  33. Remove the CPA (2) from the I/P module yellow connector (1).
  34.  
  35. Disconnect the I/P module connector (1).
  36.  
  37. Remove the passenger/right lower center pillar trim cover.
  38.  
  39. Remove the CPA from the right seat belt retractor pretensioner connector.
  40.  
  41. Remove the vehicle wiring harness connector from the right seat belt retractor pretensioner.
  42.  
  43. Remove the CPA (3) from the RF/passenger side impact module yellow connector (3), which is located under the passenger seat.
  44.  
  45. Disconnect the vehicle harness connector (4) from the RF side impact module connector (1).
