Removal & Installation



  1. Remove the strut from the vehicle. For additional information, refer to the following section, -MacPherson Strut, Removal & Installation.-
  2.  
  3. Install the strut assembly in the Special Tool J-45400 or suitable spring compressor.
    CAUTION
    The spring is compressed when the strut moves freely.

  4.  
  5. Turn the spring compressor forcing screw until the coil spring is compressed.
  6.  
  7. Use a 45 TORX® socket in order to hold the strut shaft. Use the J-42991 to remove the upper strut mount nut.
  8.  
  9. Remove the strut from the spring compressor.
  10.  
  11. Loosen the compressor forcing screw until the upper strut mount and coil spring may be removed.
  12.  
  13. Remove the upper strut mount and the coil spring from the spring compressor.

To install:

  1. Install the coil spring and upper strut mount to the spring compressor.
  2.  
  3. Turn the spring compressor forcing screw until the coil spring is compressed.
  4.  
  5. Install the strut to the coil spring and upper strut mount.
  6.  
  7. Loosely install the strut retaining nut.
  8.  
  9. Use a 45 TORX® socket in order to hold the strut shaft. Install the upper strut mount nut and tighten the nut to 63 ft. lbs. (85 Nm).
  10.  
  11. Remove the strut from the spring compressor.
  12.  
  13. Install the strut to the vehicle. For additional information, refer to the following section, -MacPherson Strut, Removal & Installation.-
