  1. Disable the air bag system. For additional information, refer to the following section, -Air Bag, Disarming.-

  3. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  4.  
  5. Remove the instrument panel (I/P) insulators.
  6.  
  7. Remove the I/P glove compartment assembly.
  8.  
  9. Remove the I/P driver knee bolster assembly.
  10.  
  11. Remove the I/P accessory trim plate around the Driver Information Display.
  12.  
  13. Remove the HVAC control panel.
  14.  
  15. Remove the driver information center.
  16.  
  17. Remove the I/P gauge cluster trim plate.
  18.  
  19. Remove the I/P gauge cluster.
  20.  
  21. Remove the I/P lower trim molding.
  22.  
  23. Remove the I/P steering column opening moldings.
  24.  
  25. Remove the left and right windshield pillar garnish moldings..
  26.  
  27. Remove the I/P upper trim pad.
  28.  
  29. Remove the steering column assembly as follows:
    1. Remove the steering wheel. For additional information, refer to the following section, -Steering Wheel, Removal & Installation.-
    2.  
    3. Remove the left knee bolster.
    4.  
    5. Remove the intermediate shaft from the steering column.
    6.  
    7. Disconnect the transaxle shift cable from the linear shift assembly ball stud.
    8.  
    9. Remove the transaxle shift cable retaining clip and cable from the shaft cable bracket.
    10.  
    11. Disconnect the steering column electrical connectors.
    12.  
    13. Remove the steering column mounting nuts and bolts, then remove the steering column.
      NOTE
      Once the steering column is removed from the car, the column is extremely susceptible to damage.

  31. Remove the front floor console assembly.

  33. Remove the front floor console reinforcement.
  34.  
  35. Remove the front floor console bracket.
  36.  
  37. Remove the passenger side air bag module.
  38.  
  39. Remove the hood release handle.
  40.  
  41. Remove the screws for the data link connector.
  42.  
  43. Remove the carrier cover.
  44.  
  45. Remove the lower extension panel.
  46.  
  47. Lift up from the bottom of the I/P in order to release the top retainers.
  48.  
  49. Remove the I/P wiring harness retainers that are attached to the I/P assembly.
  50.  
  51. Remove the I/P panel assembly from the vehicle.
  52.  
  53. Installation is the reverse order of assembly.
