Halfshafts

Removal & Installation



  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.  
  3. Remove or disconnect the following:

    Front wheel
     
    Stabilizer shaft link
     
    Tie rod end from the steering knuckle
     
    Lower ball joint from the steering knuckle by inserting a flat blade tool through the caliper hole and into the rotor to prevent the rotor from rotating
     
    Halfshaft nut
     
    Halfshaft from the wheel bearing/hub with a front hub spindle remover tool
     
    Right side halfshaft from the transaxle with an axle shaft remover tool
     
    Left side halfshaft by installing a flat blade tool between the lower control arm and the frame. Insert the tip of the blade into the groove of the tri-pot joint
     
    Left side halfshaft
     

  4.  

To install:

  1. Install or connect the following:
    WARNING
    Do not pull on the halfshaft.


    WARNING
    Do not pull on the halfshaft.



    Left side halfshaft and make certain that it is fully seated

    Push the halfshaft into place and pull on the tri-pot joint and verify that the retaining ring in fully engaged
     



    Right side halfshaft and make certain that it is fully seated
     
    Push the halfshaft into place and pull on the tri-pot joint and verify that the retaining ring in fully engaged
     



    Halfshaft into the wheel bearing/hub by inserting a flat blade tool through the caliper and into the rotor so that the rotor does not move
     
    New halfshaft nut. Torque it to 118 ft. lbs. (160 Nm).
     
    Ball joint to the steering knuckle
     
    Tie rod end to the steering knuckle
     
    Stabilizer shaft link. Torque the nut to 17 ft. lbs. (23 Nm).
     
    Front wheel

  3. Road test the vehicle and check for any abnormal noise.
  4.  
  5. Check and adjust the alignment as needed.
