Removal & Installation

Courtesy Lamps

Most W-Body vehicles will have two courtesy lamps under the instrument panel that come on when a door is opened, or when the interior lamps are turned on. Some applications may also have overhead console reading lamps.

Some applications may also have a dome lamp mounted to the headliner between the front seats. The dome lamp will come on when a door is opened or when the interior lamps are turned on.

On vehicles so equipped, the lamps next to the visor mirror will come on when the mirror cover is raised.

Side rail lamps, if equipped, will come on when a door is opened or when the interior lamps are turned on.

Not all vehicles will have all of these interior lights. Application varies from vehicle to vehicle. Service on all of these lamps is similar, differing only in accessing the socket. In most cases, a small flat-bladed prytool is all that is required to unclip or flex a lens cover to remove and/or install. The following should suffice for most all these lamps.
