Fuel Pump

The fuel pump is integral with the pump module, which also contains the fuel reservoir, level sensor, inlet strainer and fuel pressure regulator. The inlet strainer, fuel pressure regulator and level sensor are the only serviceable items. If the fuel pump requires service, replace the entire fuel pump module.

Removal & Installation



  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions section.
  2.  
  3. Properly relieve the fuel system pressure.
  4.  
  5. Drain the fuel tank.
  6.  
  7. Remove or disconnect the following:
    WARNING
    The fuel reservoir of the fuel pump module does not empty out when the tank is drained. The fuel in the reservoir will spill out when the module is removed.



    Negative battery cable
     
    Vapor line from the Evaporative Emissions (EVAP) canister tube
     
    EVAP canister
     



    Fuel line from the fuel pump module by depressing the quick-connect retainers with your thumb and forefinger
     
    Fuel pump module electrical connector by pushing down on the connector retainer and pulling the connector off of the module
     
    Fuel filler tube and filler vent tube from the fuel tank-s filler hose

  9. Support the fuel tank with a transmission jack.

    Fuel tank strap bolts; then, lower the tank slightly for access to the module
     
    Fuel pump module locknut using a ratchet and spanner wrench or special tool 6856, as necessary
     
    Fuel pump and discard the O-ring seal

To install:


WARNING
Take care to avoid wiping dirt or debris into the fuel tank opening. Such contaminants may clog or damage the new fuel pump.
