The fuel pump is integral with the pump module, which also contains the fuel reservoir, level sensor, inlet strainer and fuel pressure regulator. The inlet strainer, fuel pressure regulator and level sensor are the only serviceable items. If the fuel pump requires service, replace the entire fuel pump module.
Removal & Installation
- Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions section.
- Properly relieve the fuel system pressure.
- Drain the fuel tank.
Remove or disconnect the following:
WARNINGThe fuel reservoir of the fuel pump module does not empty out when the tank is drained. The fuel in the reservoir will spill out when the module is removed.
Negative battery cable
Fuel line from the fuel pump module by depressing the quick-connect retainers with your thumb and forefinger
Support the fuel tank with a transmission jack.
Fuel tank strap bolts; then, lower the tank slightly for access to the module
- Wipe the fuel pump mounting flange and surrounding area of the tank clean.
Install or connect the following:
NOTEBe sure the alignment tab on the underside of the fuel pump module flange sits in the notch on the fuel tank.
New O-ring seal in the tank opening
Fuel pump module locknut. Using the ratchet and spanner wrench, torque the locknut to 41 ft. lbs. (55 Nm).
- Start the vehicle, check for leaks and repair if necessary.
