Brake Light Switch

The brake light (stop lamp) switch is located on the brake pedal assembly.

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Disconnect the electrical harness at the switch.
  4.  
  5. Loosen the switch locknut.
  6.  
  7. Remove the switch.
  8.  

To install:
  1. Install and adjust the switch.
  2.  
  3. Tighten the switch locknut.
  4.  
  5. Connect the electrical harness at the switch.
  6.  
  7. Connect the negative battery cable.
  8.  

ADJUSTMENT

  1. Adjust the clearance between the brake pedal and the stop lamp switch or Automatic Speed Control Device (ASCD) switch, by loosening the locknut and adjusting the switch.
  2.  
  3. The clearance should be approximately 0.012-0.039 in. (0.30-1.00mm) between the switch threads and the brake pedal.
