Crankshaft Damper

REMOVAL & INSTALLATION



Altima
  1. Remove the accessory drive belts.
  2.  
  3. Raise and support the vehicle safely.
  4.  
  5. Remove the passenger's side front wheel.
  6.  
  7. Remove the passenger's side engine cover.
  8.  
  9. Place a floor jack under the oil pan using a piece of wood as a cushion.
  10.  
  11. Remove the passenger's side engine mount and lower the engine slightly.
  12.  
  13. Remove the crankshaft damper center bolt.
  14.  
  15. Using a jaw type gear puller, remove the damper.
  16.  

To install:
  1. Lubricate the damper hub and the crankshaft snout with grease and install the damper on the engine.
  2.  
  3. Using a crankshaft damper installer, slowly install the damper on the engine.
  4.  


WARNING
Do not hammer the crankshaft damper onto the engine. Doing so may damage the damper, crankshaft, bearings and/or other internal engine components. Always use a crankshaft damper installer to seat the damper on the engine.

  1. Install the crankshaft damper center bolt and tighten to 105-112 ft. lbs. (142-152 Nm).
  2.  
  3. Raise the engine and install the passenger's side engine mount.
  4.  
  5. Install the passenger's side engine cover.
  6.  
  7. Install the passenger's side front wheel.
  8.  
  9. Lower the vehicle safely.
  10.  
  11. Install and tension the accessory drive belts.
  12.  

240SX
  1. Raise and support the vehicle safely.
  2.  
  3. Drain and recycle the engine coolant.
  4.  
  5. Remove the radiator and engine fan assembly.
  6.  
  7. Remove the accessory drive belts.
  8.  
  9. Remove the crankshaft damper center bolt.
  10.  
  11. Using a jaw type gear puller, remove the damper.
  12.  

To install:
  1. Lubricate the damper hub and the crankshaft snout with grease and install the damper on the engine.
  2.  
  3. Using a crankshaft damper installer, slowly install the damper on the engine.
  4.

  1. Install the crankshaft damper center bolt and tighten to 105-112 ft. lbs. (142-152 Nm).

  3. Install the radiator and fan assembly.
  4.  
  5. Fill and bleed the cooling system.
  6.  
  7. Install and tension the accessory drive belts.
  8.
