  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Drain and recycle the engine coolant.
  4.  
  5. Remove the upper radiator.
  6.  
  7. Remove the accessory drive belts from the pulleys.
  8.  
  9. Remove the alternator.
  10.  
  11. Place a floor jack beneath the engine oil pan using a piece of wood as a cushion.
  12.  
  13. Raise the engine slightly using a floor jack and remove the passenger's side engine mount.
  14.  

The mounting bolts are different sizes and must be reinstalled in the correct location; therefore, it is a good idea to arrange the bolts so that they can be easily identified during installation.

  1. Unfasten the attaching bolts and remove the water pump from the engine.
  2.  

To install:
  1. Make sure all gasket surfaces are clean, then properly apply a continuous bead of liquid gasket to the water pump mounting surface.
  2.  
  3. Install the pump to the engine. Tighten the 6mm bolts to 57-66 inch lbs. (6-8 Nm) and the 8mm bolts to 12-14 ft. lbs. (16-19 Nm).
  4.  
  5. Install the water pump pulley and tighten the bolts to 57-66 inch lbs. (6-8 Nm).
  6.  
  7. Install the passenger's side engine mount.
  8.  
  9. Install the alternator.
  10.  
  11. Install the accessory drive belts on their pulleys.
  12.  
  13. Install the upper radiator.
  14.  
  15. Fill and bleed the cooling system.
  16.  
  17. Start the engine and check for leaks.
  18.  

240SX
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Drain and recycle the engine coolant.
  4.  
  5. Remove the upper radiator hose to provide working room and remove the drive belt(s) from the pulleys.
  6.  
  7. Remove the retaining screws and lift the fan shroud from the engine.
  8.  
  9. While holding the pulley, remove the nuts retaining the cooling fan and pulley to the water pump.
  10.  
  11. Remove the mounting bolts and remove the water pump from the engine.
  12.  

To install:
  1. Make sure all gasket surfaces are clean and properly apply liquid gasket to the water pump.
  2.  
  3. Install the water pump to the engine and tighten the bolts to 12-14 ft. lbs. (16-19 Nm).
  4.  
  5. Install the remaining components in the reverse order of removal.
  6.  
  7. Tighten the fan clutch, fan, and pulley mounting nuts to 66 inch lbs. (8 Nm).
  8.  
  9. Start the engine and check for leaks.
  10.
