Lower Ball Joint

INSPECTION



  1. Inspect the ball joint for play when disconnected from the steering knuckle. If the ball joint stud is worn, hard to swing, or if play in an axial direction is excessive, the ball joint is defective.

    Swinging force "A" should be 2-12 lbs. (8-55 N).
     
    Turning torque "B" should be 4-30 inch lbs. (0.5-3 Nm).
     
    Vertical end-play should be 0 in. (0mm).

  3. Replace the transverse link assembly if the ball joint is defective.

  5. Inspect the dust cover for damage and replace as necessary.

REMOVAL & INSTALLATION



The lower ball joint is an integral part of the transverse link. If the ball joint is defective, replace the transverse link as an assembly.
