REMOVAL & INSTALLATION

The 240SX uses a coil-over-shock absorber assembly that looks much like a MacPherson strut. It is removed, installed and overhauled in much the same manner.

  1. Remove the rear seat and package shelf to gain access to the upper strut attaching nuts.
  2.  
  3. Remove the upper strut attaching nuts.
  4.  
  5. Raise and safely support the vehicle.
  6.  
  7. Remove the wheel.
  8.  
  9. Matchmark the strut-to-steering knuckle location.
  10.  
  11. Disconnect the brake hose from the strut.
  12.  
  13. Remove the strut-to-knuckle bolts.
  14.  
  15. Remove the strut assembly from the vehicle.
  16.  

To install:
  1. Position the strut assembly in the vehicle.
  2.  
  3. Install new strut-to-knuckle bolts. Align the matchmarks and tighten the bolts to 87-108 ft. lbs. (118-147 Nm).
  4.  
  5. Connect the brake hose to the strut.
  6.  
  7. Install the wheel.
  8.  
  9. Lower the vehicle.
  10.  
  11. Install the 3 upper strut-to-body nuts. Tighten to 29-40 ft. lbs. (39-54 Nm).
  12.  
  13. Check the rear wheel alignment.
  14.
