Rear Knuckle

  1. Raise and safely support the vehicle.
  2.  
  3. Disconnect the ABS wheel sensor from the knuckle and set it aside.
  4.  
  5. Pry off the hub cap, then remove the cotter pin. Unfasten and remove the axle locknut and washer.
  6.  

Do not disconnect the brake hose.

  1. On disc brake equipped vehicles, remove the brake caliper assembly and rotor. Suspend the caliper out of the way using a piece of mechanic's wire.
  2.  
  3. Disconnect the parallel links and radius link from the knuckle.
  4.  
  5. Remove the strut lower mounting bolts.
  6.  
  7. Remove the knuckle from the vehicle.
  8.  

To install:
  1. Position the knuckle on the vehicle.
  2.  
  3. Install new strut lower mounting bolts.
  4.  
  5. Connect the parallel links and radius link to the knuckle.
  6.  
  7. On disc brake equipped vehicles, install the brake caliper assembly and rotor.
  8.  
  9. Install the axle washer and locknut. Be sure to tighten the locknut to specifications.
  10.  
  11. Install a new cotter pin, then attach the hub cap.
  12.  
  13. Connect the ABS wheel sensor to the knuckle.
  14.  
  15. Lower the vehicle.
  16.

  1. Raise and safely support the vehicle.
  2.  
  3. Disconnect the ABS wheel sensor from the knuckle and set it aside.
  4.  
  5. Pry off the hub cap, then remove the cotter pin and serrated nut cover. Unfasten and remove the axle locknut and washer.
  6.  

Do not disconnect the brake hose.

  1. On disc brake equipped vehicles, remove the brake caliper assembly and rotor. Suspend the caliper out of the way using a piece of mechanic's wire.
  2.  

When removing the axle shaft, cover the CV-boots with shop rags to prevent damaging them.

  1. Separate the axle shaft from the knuckle by lightly tapping it using a plastic hammer. If the shaft is hard to remove, a jaw type puller may be used to force the shaft through the hub.
  2.  
  3. Loosen the lower ball joint attaching nut and separate the ball joint from the knuckle. This can be accomplished either by striking the knuckle with a hammer or by using a ball joint separator tool.
  4.  
  5. Disconnect the knuckle from the upper links and lateral link.
  6.  
  7. Remove the strut lower mounting bolts.
  8.  
  9. Remove the knuckle from the vehicle.
  10.  

To install:
  1. Position the knuckle on the vehicle.
  2.  
  3. Install new strut lower mounting bolts.
  4.  
  5. Connect the knuckle to the upper links and lateral link.
  6.  
  7. Connect the lower ball joint to the knuckle.
  8.  
  9. Insert the axle shaft into the knuckle and hub assembly.
  10.  
  11. If applicable, install the brake caliper assembly and rotor.
  12.  
  13. Install the axle washer and locknut. Tighten the locknut to specifications.
  14.  
  15. Install the serrated nut cover, followed by a new cotter pin. Attach the hub cap.
  16.  
  17. Connect the ABS wheel sensor to the knuckle.
  18.  
  19. Lower the vehicle.
  20.
