Removal & Installation



1.6L And 2.0L Engines
  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the precautions in the beginning of this section.
  2.  
  3. Drain the engine oil
  4.  
  5. Remove or disconnect the following:

    Negative battery cable
     
    Drive belts
     
    Cylinder head
     
    Oil pan and strainer
     
    Engine front cover
     
    Oil pump from the front cover
     

  6.  

To install:

  1. Install or connect the following:
    NOTE
    Refer to Section 1 of this manual for the cylinder head torque sequence illustration. The illustration is located after the Torque Specification Chart.



    Oil pump cover and torque the long bolt to 70 inch lbs. (8 Nm) and the short bolt to 44 inch lbs. (5 Nm)
     
    Front cover and torque the bolts to 43 ft. lbs. (58 Nm)
     
    Oil strainer and oil pan
     
    Cylinder head
     



    Drive belts
     
    Negative battery cable
     

  2.  
  3. Fill the engine with clean oil.
  4.  
  5. Start the vehicle, check for leaks and repair if necessary.
  6.  

1.8L And 2.0L Engines
  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions section.
  2.  
  3. Drain the engine oil
  4.  
  5. Remove or disconnect the following:

    Negative battery cable
     
    Drive belts
     
    Cylinder head
     
    Oil pan and strainer
     
    Engine front cover
     
    Oil pump from the front cover

To install:

  1. Install or connect the following:

    Oil pump cover and torque the long bolt to 70 inch lbs. (8 Nm) and the short bolt to 44 inch lbs. (5 Nm)
     
    Front cover and torque the bolts to 43 ft. lbs. (58 Nm)
     
    Oil strainer and oil pan
     
    Cylinder head
     
    Drive belts
     
    Negative battery cable
     

  2.  
  3. Fill the engine with clean oil.
  4.  
  5. Start the vehicle, check for leaks and repair if necessary.
  6.  

2.4L Engine
  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions section.
  2.  
  3. Drain the engine oil
  4.  
  5. Remove or disconnect the following:

    Negative battery cable
     
    Engine front cover
     
    Oil pump cover and pump
     

  6.  

To install:

  1. Install or connect the following:

    Oil pump
     
    Oil pump cover and torque the long bolt to 15 ft. lbs. (20 Nm) and shorter bolt to 69 inch lbs. (8 Nm)
     
    Front cover
     
    Negative battery cable
     

  2.  
  3. Fill the engine with clean oil.
  4.  
  5. Start the vehicle, check for leaks and repair if necessary.
  6.  

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the precautions in the beginning of this section.
  2.  
  3. Drain the engine oil
  4.  
  5. Remove or disconnect the following:

    Negative battery cable
     
    Engine front cover
     
    Oil pump cover
     

  6.  

To install:

  1. Install or connect the following:

    Oil pump cover and torque the long bolt to 15 ft. lbs. (20 Nm) and shorter bolt to 69 inch lbs. (8 Nm)
     
    Front cover
     
    Negative battery cable
     

  2.  
  3. Fill the engine with clean oil.
  4.  
  5. Start the vehicle, check for leaks and repair if necessary
  6.  

3.0L And 3.5L Engines
  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions section.
  2.  
  3. Drain the engine oil
  4.  
  5. Remove or disconnect the following:

    Negative battery cable
     
    Drive belts
     
    Camshaft Position (CMP) sensor (PHASE) and the Crankshaft Position (CKP) sensor (REF)/(POS)
     
    Engine lower covers
     
    Crankshaft pulley
     
    Front exhaust tube and support
     
    Right side mounting insulator and bracket
     
    Center member
     
    A/C compressor and move it aside
     
    Oil pans
     
    Water pump cover
     
    Front cover
     
    Timing chain
     
    Oil pump assembly
     

  6.  
  7. Clean all mating surfaces.
  8.

To install:

  1. Install or connect the following:

    Oil pump
     
    Timing chain
     
    Front cover and torque the long bolt to 95 inch lbs. (11 Nm) and the short bolt to 71 inch lbs. (8 Nm)
     
    Water pump cover
     
    Oil pans
     
    A/C compressor
     
    Center member
     
    Right side mounting insulator and bracket
     
    Front exhaust tube and support
     
    Crankshaft pulley
     
    CMP and CKP sensors
     
    Engine lower covers
     
    Drive belts
     
    Negative battery cable
     

  2.  
  3. Fill the engine with clean oil
  4.  
  5. Start the vehicle, check for leaks and repair if necessary.
  6.  

3.0L Engine
  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the precautions in the beginning of this section.
  2.  
  3. Drain the engine oil
  4.  
  5. Remove or disconnect the following:

    Negative battery cable
     
    Drive belts
     
    Camshaft Position (CMP) sensor (PHASE) and the Crankshaft Position (CKP) sensor (REF)/(POS)
     
    Engine lower covers
     
    Crankshaft pulley
     
    Front exhaust tube and support
     
    Right side mounting insulator and bracket
     
    Center member
     
    A/C compressor and move it aside
     
    Oil pans
     
    Water pump cover
     
    Front cover
     
    Timing chain
     
    Oil pump assembly
     

  6.  
  7. Clean all mating surfaces.

To install:

  1. Install or connect the following:

    Oil pump
     
    Timing chain
     
    Front cover and torque the long bolt to 95 inch lbs. (11 Nm) and the short bolt to 71 inch lbs. (8 Nm)
     
    Water pump cover
     
    Oil pans
     
    A/C compressor
     
    Center member
     
    Right side mounting insulator and bracket
     
    Front exhaust tube and support
     
    Crankshaft pulley
     
    CMP and CKP sensors
     
    Engine lower covers
     
    Drive belts
     
    Negative battery cable

  3. Fill the engine with clean oil
  4.  
  5. Start the vehicle, check for leaks and repair if necessary.

    Front cover
     
    Timing chain
     
    Oil pump assembly
     

  6.  
  7. Clean all mating surfaces.

To install:

  1. Install or connect the following:

    Oil pump
     
    Timing chain
     
    Front cover and torque the long bolt to 95 inch lbs. (11 Nm) and the short bolt to 71 inch lbs. (8 Nm)
     
    Water pump cover
     
    Oil pans
     
    A/C compressor
     
    Center member
     
    Right side mounting insulator and bracket
     
    Front exhaust tube and support
     
    Crankshaft pulley
     
    CMP and CKP sensors
     
    Engine lower covers
     
    Drive belts
     
    Negative battery cable
     

  2.  
  3. Fill the engine with clean oil
  4.  
  5. Start the vehicle, check for leaks and repair if necessary.
