  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions section.
  2.  
  3. Properly relieve the fuel system pressure.
  4.  
  5. Drain and recycle the engine coolant.
  6.  
  7. Remove or disconnect the following:
    CAUTION
    Do not scratch or damage the mating surfaces when cleaning off old liquid gasket.



    Negative battery cable
     
    Engine cover
     
    Intake manifold collectors
     
    Engine harnesses- and brackets from valve covers, secure and set aside
     
    Ignition coil
     
    PCV hoses from valve covers
     
    If necessary, PCV valve and O-ring from valve cover (right bank)
     
    If necessary, oil filler cap from valve cover (left bank)
     
    Valve cover bolts in sequence
     
    Valve cover gaskets
     

  8.  
  9. Use a scraper to remove liquid gasket from the cylinder head and camshaft bracket (1).

To install:

  1. Use Genuine RTV Silicone Sealant or equivalent.
  2.  
  3. Apply liquid gasket with tube presser (WS39930000) to cylinder head and camshaft bracket (No. 1) as follows:

    Refer to -A- in illustration to apply liquid gasket to joint part of camshaft bracket (No. 1) and cylinder head.
     
    Refer to -B- in illustration to apply liquid gasket to -A- squarely.

  5. Install new valve gasket to valve cover.
  6.  
  7. Install valve covers and tighten bolts in sequence to the following specifications:

    First pass: 9-26 inch lbs. (0.96-2.26 Nm)
     
    Second pass: 65-82 inch lbs. (Nm)

  9. If removed, install oil filler cap to valve cover (left bank).
  10.  
  11. If removed, install O-ring and PCV valve to valve cover (right bank).
  12.  
  13. To install the PCV hose, perform the following:

    Insert PCV hose by 1-1.18 inches from connector end
     
    When installing, be careful not to twist or come in contact with other parts.
     
    Install PCV hose between the right and left valve covers with its identification paint facing upwards. (right valve cover side)

  15. To complete installation, reverse remaining removal procedure.

3.0L Engine
  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions section.
  2.  
  3. Remove or disconnect the following:

    Negative battery cable
     
    Blow by hose
     
    Positive Crankcase Ventilation (PCV) valve
     
    Rocker arm cover and discard the gasket

To install:

  1. Install or connect the following:

    Rocker arm cover with a new gasket and torque the bolts as follows:
     

    1. Step 1: Tighten bolts 1-10 to 80 inch lbs. (9 Nm).
    2.  
    3. Step 2: Tighten bolts 1-10 to 80 inch lbs. (9 Nm).

      PCV valve
       
      Blow by hose
       
      Negative battery cable

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions section.
  2.  
  3. Remove or disconnect the following:

    Negative battery cable
     
    Intake manifold collector (upper) using power tool.
     
    Gasket and the electric throttle control actuator.
     
    Six ignition coils
     
    Two intake valve timing control solenoid valves and gaskets
     

  4.  
  5. Remove the valve cover bolts in sequence.

To install:

  1. To install, reverse removal procedure.
  2.  
  3. Apply sealant to the areas on the front corners. Use Genuine Silicone RTV Sealant or equivalent.
  4.  
  5. Tighten the valve cover bolts in sequence to the following specifications:

    First pass: 9-26 inch lbs. (0.96-2.96 Nm).
     
    Second pass: 65-82 inch lbs. (7.33-9.33 Nm).
