Brake Caliper

Removal & Installation



  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions section.
  2.  
  3. Remove or disconnect the following:

    Front wheels
     
    Brake fluid hose
     
    Pin bolts
     
    Caliper assembly from the vehicle
     

  4.  

To install: ]

  1. Use a large C-clamp to press the caliper piston back into the caliper.
  2.  
  3. Install or connect the following:

    New pads, new shims and pad retainers
     
    Brake caliper and torque the pin bolts to 23 ft. lbs. (31 Nm)
     
    Brake line to the caliper, using new copper washers, and torque the connecting bolt to 12-14 ft. lbs. (17-20 Nm).
     
    Wheels
     

  4.  
  5. Bleed the brake system and top off the master cylinder as necessary.
  6.

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the precautions in the beginning of this section.

  3. Remove the front wheels.
  4.  
  5. Disconnect the brake fluid hose.
  6.  
  7. Remove the pin bolts.
  8.  
  9. Remove the caliper assembly from the vehicle.
  10.  

To install:

  1. Use a large C-clamp to press the caliper piston back into the caliper.
  2.  
  3. Install the new pads, new shims and pad retainers.
  4.  
  5. Install the brake caliper and torque the pin bolts to 23 ft. lbs. (31 Nm).
  6.  
  7. Using new copper washers, install the brake line to the brake caliper and torque the connecting bolt to 12-14 ft. lbs. (17-20 Nm).
  8.  
  9. Install the wheels.
  10.  
  11. Bleed the brake system and top off the master cylinder as necessary.

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.

  3. Remove or disconnect the following:

    Front wheels
     
    Brake fluid hose
     
    Pin bolts
     
    Caliper assembly from the vehicle

To install: ]

  1. Use a large C-clamp to press the caliper piston back into the caliper.
  2.  
  3. Install or connect the following:

    New pads, new shims and pad retainers
     
    Brake caliper and torque the pin bolts to 23 ft. lbs. (31 Nm)
     
    Brake line to the caliper, using new copper washers, and torque the connecting bolt to 12-14 ft. lbs. (17-20 Nm).
     
    Wheels

  5. Bleed the brake system and top off the master cylinder as necessary.
  6.  

Except Clz25vd/Opb27va/Brembo Caliper (2006 Model Only)
  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.  
  3. Remove tires from vehicle.
  4.  
  5. Fasten disc rotor using wheel nut.
  6.  
  7. Drain brake fluid gradually (from bleed valve while depressing brake pedal).
  8.  
  9. Remove union bolt, and then remove brake hose from caliper assembly.
  10.  
  11. Remove torque member mounting bolts (from torque member), and remove caliper assembly (from vehicle with a power tool).
    WARNING
    Do not drop brake pads.

  12.  
  13. Remove disc rotor.
    NOTE
    Put matching marks on both disc rotor and wheel hub when removing disc rotor.

  14.  

To install:

  1. Install disc rotor.
    NOTE
    Align the matching marks of disc rotor and wheel hub, which were marked at the time of removal when reusing disc rotor.

  2.  
  3. Install caliper assembly to vehicle, and tighten torque member mounting bolts to 113 ft. lbs. (154 Nm).
    NOTE
    Before installing torque member to vehicle, wipe oil and grease on washer seats on steering knuckle and mounting surface of torque member.

  4.  
  5. Install a projection of brake hose metal fitting by aligning with protrusions on cylinder body, and tighten union bolt to 13 ft. lbs. (18 Nm).
    WARNING
    Refill with new brake fluid -DOT 3-. Never reuse drained brake fluid.

  6.  
  7. Bleed the brake system and top off the master cylinder as necessary.
  8.  
  9. Install tires to vehicle.
  10.  

With Clz25vd Caliper
  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions section.
  2.  
  3. Remove or disconnect the following:

    Front wheels
     
    Brake fluid hose
     
    Sliding pin bolts
     
    Caliper assembly from the vehicle
     

  4.  

To install:

  1. Use a large C-clamp to press the caliper piston back into the caliper.
  2.  
  3. Install or connect the following:

    New pads, new shims and pad retainers
     
    Brake caliper and torque the sliding pin bolts to17-22 ft. lbs. (22-31 Nm).
     
    Brake line to the caliper, using new copper washers, and torque the connecting bolt to 12-14 ft. lbs. (17-20 Nm).
     
    Wheels
     

  4.  
  5. Bleed the brake system and top off the master cylinder as necessary.
  6.  

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.

  3. Remove or disconnect the following:

    Front wheels
     
    Brake fluid hose
     
    Sliding pin bolts
     
    Caliper assembly from the vehicle

To install:

  1. Use a large C-clamp to press the caliper piston back into the caliper.
  2.  
  3. Install or connect the following:

    New pads, new shims and pad retainers
     
    Brake caliper and torque the sliding pin bolts to17-22 ft. lbs. (22-31 Nm).
     
    Brake line to the caliper, using new copper washers, and torque the connecting bolt to 12-14 ft. lbs. (17-20 Nm).
     
    Wheels
     

  4.  
  5. Bleed the brake system and top off the master cylinder as necessary.
  6.  

With Opb27va Caliper
  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions section.
  2.  
  3. Remove or disconnect the following:

    Front wheels
     
    Caliper bolts
     
    Caliper assembly from the vehicle
     

  4.  

To install:

  1. Use a large C-clamp to press the caliper piston back into the caliper.
  2.  
  3. Install or connect the following:

    New pads, new shims and pad retainers
     
    Brake caliper and torque the mounting bolts to 112 ft. lbs. (152 Nm).
     
    Wheels
     

  4.  
  5. Bleed the brake system and top off the master cylinder as necessary.
  6.  

With Opb27va/Brembo Caliper
  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.  
  3. Remove or disconnect the following:

    Front wheels
     
    Caliper bolts
     
    Caliper assembly from the vehicle
     

  4.  

To install:

  1. Use a large C-clamp to press the caliper piston back into the caliper.
  2.  
  3. Install or connect the following:

    New pads, new shims and pad retainers
     
    Brake caliper and torque the mounting bolts to 112 ft. lbs. (152 Nm).
     
    Wheels
     

  4.  
  5. Bleed the brake system and top off the master cylinder as necessary.
  6.
