Driven Disc & Pressure Plate

Removal & Installation



  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions section.
  2.  
  3. Remove or disconnect the following:

    Transmission/transaxle assembly
     

  4.  
  5. Insert a clutch disc centering tool into the clutch disc hub for support.

    Pressure plate bolts evenly in reverse order of the tightening sequence, a little at a time to prevent distortion
     
    Clutch assembly
     
    Throw-out bearing from the clutch lever
     

  6.  

To install:

  1. Apply a light coating of chassis lube to the clutch disc spleens, input shaft and pilot bearing. Use a disc centering tool to aid installation.
  2.  
  3. Install or connect the following:

    Disc and pressure plate
     

  4.  
  5. On all except Maxima and 350Z, torque the pressure plate bolts in a crisscross pattern and in several steps to 16-22 ft. lbs. (20-26 Nm).
  6.  
  7. On Maxima, torque the pressure plate bolts in a crisscross pattern in the following 2 steps:
    1. Step 1: 7-14 ft. lbs. (10-20 Nm).
    2.  
    3. Step 2: 25-33 ft. lbs. (34-44 Nm).
    4.  

  8.  
  9. On 350Z, torque the pressure plate bolts in a crisscross pattern in the following 2 steps:
    1. Step 1: 11 ft. lbs. (115 Nm).
    2.  
    3. Step 2: 29 ft. lbs. (340 Nm).
    4.  

  10.  
  11. Install or connect the following:

    New throw-out bearing in the clutch release lever. Remove the clutch disc centering tool.
     
    Transaxle into the vehicle. If the mating surfaces will not come together, do not force the units together. Remove the transaxle and recheck that the disc is centered.

NOTE
DO NOT draw the transaxle to the engine with the bolts. This may damage the clutch and/or transaxle. Also, be careful not to move the throw-out bearing when installing the transaxle.

  1. After the transaxle is installed, connect the clutch cable and check operation before complete reassembly.
  2.  
  3. Adjust the clutch pedal as necessary.
  4.

  9. Install or connect the following:
    NOTE
