Z-Series 4-Cylinder Engines

Review the entire procedure before starting this repair.

  1. Release fuel pressure by following the correct procedure. Refer to Fuel Pressure Release Procedure.
  2.
  3. Disconnect the negative battery cable and the accelerator cable.
  4.
  5. Disconnect the injector harness connector.
  6.
  7. Tag and disconnect the vacuum hose at the fuel pipe connection end. Disconnect the air regulator and its harness connector, and tag and disconnect any other hoses that may hinder removal of the injection assembly.
  8.
  9. Disconnect the fuel feed hose and fuel return hose from the fuel pipe.
  10.

Place a rag under the fuel pipe to prevent splashing of the fuel.

  1. Remove the vacuum hose connecting the pressure regulator to the intake manifold.
  2.
  3. Remove the bolts securing the fuel pipe and pressure regulator.
  4.
  5. Remove the screws securing the fuel injectors. Remove the fuel pipe assembly, by pulling out the fuel pipe, injectors and pressure regulator as an assembly.
  6.
  7. Unfasten the hose clamp on the injectors and remove the injectors from the fuel pipe.
  8.

To install:

  1. Install the fuel injectors in the fuel pipe with new hose clamps.
  2.
  3. Install the fuel pipe assembly, injectors with new O-rings and pressure regulator as an assembly.
  4.
  5. Connect the fuel feed hose and fuel return hose to the fuel pipe. Use new hose clamps on all connections. Reconnect all vacuum hoses and electrical connections.
  6.
  7. Reconnect the accelerator cable and battery cable. Note the following:
  8.
    1. When installing the injectors, check that there are no scratches or abrasion at the lower rubber insulator, and securely install it, making sure it is air-tight.
    2.
    3. When installing the fuel hose, make sure the hose end is inserted onto the metal pipe until the end contacts the unit, as far as it will go. Push the end of the injector rubber hose onto the fuel pipe until it is 25mm from the end of the pipe.
    4.
    5. Never reuse hose clamps on the injection system. Always renew the clamps. When tightening clamps, make sure the screw does not come in contact with adjacent parts.
    6.

  9. Start the engine and check for fuel leaks.
  10.

L-Series 6-Cylinder Engines
  1. Release fuel pressure by following the correct procedure. Refer to Fuel Pressure Release Procedure. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.
  3. Disconnect the electric connector from the injector and cold start valve.
  4.
  5. Disengage the harness from the fuel pipe wire clamp.
  6.
  7. Disconnect the blow-by hose at the side of the rocker cover.
  8.
  9. Disconnect the vacuum tube, which connects the pressure regulator to the intake manifold, from the pressure regulator.
  10.
  11. Remove the air regulator pipe.
  12.
  13. Disconnect the fuel feed hose and fuel return hose from the fuel pipe.
  14.

Place a rag underneath the fuel pipe to catch fuel spillage.

  1. Remove the bolts securing the fuel pipe and cold start valve. Remove the screws securing the fuel injectors.
  2.
  3. Remove the fuel pipe assembly by pulling out the fuel pipe, injectors, pressure regulator and cold start valve as an assembly.
  4.
  5. Unfasten the hose clamp on the injectors and remove the injectors from the fuel pipe.
  6.

To install:

  1. Install the fuel injectors in the fuel pipe with a new hose clamps.
  2.
  3. Install the fuel pipe assembly, injectors with new O-rings, pressure regulator and cold start valve as an assembly.
  4.
  5. Connect the fuel feed hose and fuel return hose to the fuel pipe. Always use new hose clamps.
  6.
  7. Install the air regulator pipe.
  8.
  9. Reconnect the vacuum tube to the pressure regulator. The vacuum tube connects the pressure regulator to the intake manifold.
  10.
  11. Connect the blow-by hose to the side of the rocker cover. Reconnect all vacuum hoses if removed and all electrical connections.
  12.
  13. Reconnect the negative battery cable. Start the engine and check for fuel leaks.
