Any time the fuel system is being worked on always keep a dry chemical (Class B) fire extinguisher near the work area.
- Remove the fuel pump fuse from the fuse block, fuel pump relay or disconnect the harness connector at the tank while engine is running.
- It should run and then stall when the fuel in the lines is exhausted. When the engine stops, crank the starter for about 5 seconds to make sure all pressure in the fuel lines is released.
- Install the fuel pump fuse, relay or harness connector after repair is made.
On 1977-79 810, disconnect the ground cable from the battery. Disconnect the cold start valve wiring harness at the connector. Connect two jumper wires to the terminals of the cold start valve. Touch the other ends of the jumpers to the positive and negative terminals of the battery for a few seconds to release the pressure.
For 1980-84 810, Maxima and 1980-81 200SX, start the engine, disconnect the harness connector of fuel pump relay 2 while the engine is running. After the engine stalls, crank it over two or three times to make sure all of the fuel pressure is released.
