It may be necessary to drop the steering column to aid removal. Refer to the exploded view of the 710 instrument cluster removal illustration. Tag all wiring for correct installation.

  1. Disconnect the battery ground cable.
  2.  
  3. Remove the four screws and the steering column cover.
  4.  
  5. Remove the screws which attach the cluster face. Two are just above the steering column, and there is one inside each of the outer instrument recesses.
  6.  
  7. Pull the cluster lid forward.
  8.  
  9. Disconnect the multiple connector.
  10.  
  11. Disconnect the speedometer cable.
  12.  
  13. Disconnect any other wiring.
  14.  
  15. Remove the cluster face.
  16.  
  17. Remove the odometer knob if so equipped.
  18.  
  19. Remove the six screws and the cluster. Instruments may now be readily replaced.
  20.  

To install:

  1. Reconnect all electrical connections and speedometer cable to the instrument cluster. Install the cluster in position with retaining screws.
  2.  
  3. Install the odometer knob if so equipped.
  4.  
  5. Install the cluster face and the steering column cover.
  6.  
  7. Reconnect the battery ground cable.
  8.  

1977-80 810
  1. Disconnect the battery ground cable. Remove the knobs and nuts on the radio and the knob on the choke control wire. Remove the ashtray.
  2.  
  3. Remove the steering column covers.
  4.  
  5. Disconnect the harness connectors after noting their location and marking them.
  6.  
  7. Remove the retaining screws and remove the instrument panel.
  8.  
  9. Installation is in the reverse order of removal.

This procedure is for instrument panel and cluster. Refer to the exploded view of 1977-79 200SX instrument panel illustration.

  1. Disconnect the battery ground cable.
  2.  
  3. Remove the steering column covers.
  4.  
  5. Disconnect the speedometer cable and the radio antenna.
  6.  
  7. Disconnect all the wires from the back of the panel after noting their location and marking them.
  8.  
  9. Remove the bolts which secure the steering column clamp. Remove the package tray.
  10.  
  11. Unbolt the panel from the brackets on the left and right-hand sides.
  12.  
  13. Remove the right side windshield pillar trim and remove the bolt which attaches the panel to the pillar.
  14.  
  15. Remove the instrument garnish.
  16.  
  17. Remove the retaining bolts and remove the panel.
  18.  

To install:

  1. Install the panel with retaining bolts in the correct position. Install the instrument garnish.
  2.  
  3. Reconnect all the wires to the back of the panel in the correct location.
  4.  
  5. Connect the speedometer cable, radio antenna and steering column covers.
  6.  
  7. Install the right side windshield pillar trim, steering column clamp and package tray.
  8.  
  9. Reconnect the battery ground cable.
  10.  

1980-81 200SX

  1. Disconnect the battery ground terminal. It may be necessary to remove the steering wheel and covers to remove the instrument cluster.
  2.  
  3. Remove the five bolts holding the cluster in place and pull the cluster out, then remove all connections from its back. Make sure you mark the wiring to avoid confusion during reassembly.
  4.  
  5. Remove the instrument cluster.
  6.  
  7. Installation is the reverse of removal.
  8.  

1978-81 510

Refer to 1978 510 instrument panel removal points illustration.

  1. Disconnect the battery ground cable.
  2.  
  3. Remove the steering column covers. Disconnect the hazard warning switch connector.
  4.  
  5. Remove the wiper switch. Pull out the ashtray, remove the heater, control knobs, and remove the heater control plate by inserting a screwdriver into the fan lever slit and levering the plate out.
  6.  
  7. Remove the finish plate to the left of the glove compartment.
  8.  
  9. Pull off the radio knobs and remove the nuts and washers.
  10.  
  11. Remove the choke and side defroster knobs.
  12.  
  13. Remove the cluster lid screws.
  14.  
  15. Disconnect the electrical connectors.
  16.  
  17. Remove the cluster lid.
  18.  
  19. Remove the instrument cluster retaining screws. Disconnect the speedometer cable by pushing and turning counterclockwise.
  20.  
  21. Disconnect the instrument cluster wire connectors and remove the cluster.
  22.  
  23. Reconnect all electrical connections and speedometer cable to the instrument cluster. Install the cluster in position with retaining screws.
  24.  

To install:

  1. Install the cluster lid and all knobs.
  2.  
  3. Install the finish plate to the left of the glove compartment.
  4.  
  5. Install the wiper switch, ashtray, heater control knobs and heater control plate.
  6.  
  7. Connect the electrical connection for the hazard warning switch and install the steering column covers.
  8.  
  9. Reconnect the battery ground cable.
  10.

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable. Remove the instrument lower cover.
  2.  
  3. Remove the steering wheel, if necessary.
  4.  
  5. Disconnect the speedometer cable. Remove the six mounting screws and lift out the cluster lid.
  6.  
  7. Unscrew the mounting bolts and lift off the left side instrument pad (this is the hooded part of the dashboard that the instrument cluster sits in).
  8.  
  9. Loosen the instrument cluster mounting screws, pull it out slightly and disconnect all wiring. Remove the cluster.
  10.  

To install:

  1. Reconnect all electrical connections and speedometer cable to the instrument cluster. Install the cluster in position with retaining screws.
  2.  
  3. Install the steering wheel and the instrument lower cover. Reconnect the negative battery cable.
  4.
