Wheel Speed Sensor Rotors (Toothed Rings)

Removal & Installation



Front
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Raise and support the vehicle safely.
  4.  
  5. Remove the front wheel hub.
  6.  
  7. Remove the sensor rotor using a suitable puller, drift and bearing replacer.
  8.  

To install:

  1. Installation is the reverse of the removal procedure.
  2.  
  3. Pay attention to the direction of the sensor rotor (see illustration)

The front sensor rotor cannot be disassembled. It is integrated with the hub and bearing assembly. To replace the sensor rotor, replace the front hub and knuckle assembly. The rear sensor rotor cannot be disassembled. It is integrated with the hub and bearing assembly. To replace the sensor rotor, replace the rear hub and bearing assembly.

Rear
2-Wheel Drive

The manufacturer does not provide removal and installation procedures for this component. Please note the following before removal and/or installation is attempted.


CAUTION
Be careful not to damage the sensor edge and the sensor rotor teeth. In case the final drive assembly needs to be removed, disconnect the ABS sensor from the assembly and move it to the side. Failure to do so may result in damage to the sensor wires, rendering the sensor inoperative.


NOTE
For final drive models using a collapsible spacer (H190A, C200) bearing preload must be adjusted whenever the companion flange is removed. Therefore final drive overhaul is required.

C200
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Raise and support the vehicle safely.
  4.  
  5. Remove the axle shaft.
  6.  
  7. Remove the sensor rotor using tool J25852-B or equivalent.
  8.  

To install:

  1. Installation is the reverse of the removal procedure.
  2.  
  3. Pay attention to the direction of the sensor rotor
  4.  

Except 2000 2wd
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Raise and support the vehicle safely.
  4.  
  5. Remove the axle shaft.
  6.  
  7. Remove the sensor rotor using tool J25852-B or equivalent.
  8.  

To install:

  1. Installation is the reverse of the removal procedure.
  2.  
  3. Pay attention to the direction of the sensor rotor (see illustration)

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Raise and support the vehicle safely.
  4.  
  5. Remove the axle shaft.
    NOTE
    It is necessary to disassemble the rear axle to replace the sensor rotor.

  6.  
  7. Pull the sensor off of the axle shaft using tool 205-D002, or equivalent, and a press.
  8.  

To install:

  1. Installation is the reverse of the removal procedure.
  2.  
  3. Make sure that the sensor rotor is fully seated.
    NOTE
    Never reuse the old sensor rotor. Never reuse the old oil seal.
