Removal & Installation



2.4L Engine
  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions section.
  2.  
  3. Drain the engine oil.
  4.  
  5. Remove or disconnect the following:

    Negative battery cable
     
    Engine under cover
     
    Stabilizer bar
     
    Oil pan. Loosen the bolts in the sequence shown.

To install:

  1. Apply a continuous bead of sealant 0.138-0.177 in. (3.5-4.5mm) to the oil pan mating surface.
  2.  
  3. Install or connect the following:

    Oil pan. Tighten the bolts in sequence to 60-72 inch lbs. (7-8 Nm).
     
    Stabilizer bar. Tighten the bracket bolts to 38-45 ft. lbs. (51-61 Nm) and the link nuts to 12-16 ft. lbs. (16-22 Nm).
     
    Engine under cover
     
    Negative battery cable

NOTE
Wait 30 minutes after installation of the oil pan to allow the sealant to cure before adding oil.

  1. Fill the crankcase to the correct level.
  2.  
  3. Start the engine and check for leaks.
  4.  

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the precautions in the beginning of this section.

  3. Drain the engine oil.
  4.  
  5. Remove or disconnect the following:

    Negative battery cable
     
    Engine under cover
     
    Stabilizer bar
     
    Oil pan. Loosen the bolts in the sequence shown.

To install:

  1. Apply a continuous bead of sealant 0.138-0.177 in. (3.5-4.5mm) to the oil pan mating surface.

    NOTE
    Wait 30 minutes after installation of the oil pan to allow the sealant to cure before adding oil.

  5. Fill the crankcase to the correct level.

  7. Start the engine and check for leaks.

2.5L Engine
  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.  
  3. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  4.  
  5. Remove the engine under cover. Drain the engine oil.
  6.  
  7. If equipped with automatic transmission, remove the fluid cooler tube.
  8.  
  9. Loosen the oil pan retaining bolts, in the reverse order of the installation sequence.
  10.  
  11. Insert a seal cutter tool between the oil pan and the cylinder block, and slide it by tapping on the side of the tool with a hammer.
  12.  
  13. Remove the oil pan from the engine.
  14.  

To install:

  1. Be sure to clean all the oil gasket material from both the oil pan and the cylinder block surfaces, using the proper tools.
  2.  
  3. Apply a continuous bead of sealant 0.138-0.177 in. (3.5-4.5mm) to the oil pan mating surface.
  4.  
  5. Install the oil pan to the cylinder block. This must be done within 5 minutes after applying the liquid gasket.
  6.  
  7. Torque the bolts to specification and in the proper sequence.
  8.  
  9. Continue the installation in the reverse order of the removal procedure.
    NOTE
    Wait 30 minutes after installation of the oil pan to allow the sealant to cure before adding oil.

  10.  
  11. Fill the crankcase to the correct level.
  12.  
  13. Start the engine and check for leaks.
