  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.  
  3. Fully release the parking brake lever.
  4.  
  5. Loosen -A- and rotate -B- until the brake cable loosens.
  6.  
  7. Depress the brake pedal several times until a clicking sound does not occur from the rear brakes.
  8.  
  9. Adjust the clearance between the rear brake shoe and the drum.
  10.  
  11. Adjust the parking brake lever stroke by rotating -B-.
  12.  
  13. Pull the parking brake lever with a little force. Check the lever stroke and ensure smooth operation.
  14.  
  15. Readjust the clearance between the rear brake shoe and the drum

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.  
  3. Ensure that there is no drag when the pedal is released.
  4.  
  5. Loosen the parking brake cable.
  6.  
  7. Depress the parking brake cable fully more than five times.
  8.  
  9. Operate the control pedal ten times or more, with a full stroke of 8.01 inch.
  10.  
  11. Adjust the cable by turning the adjusting nut.
  12.  
  13. Depress the pedal 5-6 notches for 2002 vehicles, 6-8 notches for 2003-2004 vehicles equipped with 2.4L engine and 7-9 notches for 2003-2004 vehicles equipped with 3.3L engine.
  14.  
  15. Bend the brake warning lamp switch plate. The warning light should come on when the pedal is depressed 1 notch. It should go off when the pedal is fully released.

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.  
  3. Remove the rear half of the center console.
  4.  
  5. Rotate the adjusting nut and loosen the cable until the tension is sufficiently released.
  6.  
  7. Raise and safely support the vehicle.
  8.  
  9. Remove the wheel and tire assembly.
  10.  
  11. Remove the rotor and measure the inner diameter at the widest point, using tool J-2117-A or equivalent.
  12.  
  13. Transfer the measurement, less 0.6 mm to the parking brake shoes and adjust accordingly.
  14.  
  15. Using the wheel nuts, secure the disc to the hub to prevent it from tilting.
  16.  
  17. Rotate the disc rotor to make sure that there is no drag.
  18.  
  19. Operate the control pedal ten times or more, with a force of 110 lbs.
  20.  
  21. Rotate the adjusting nut to adjust the lever stroke to specification. Lever stroke specification is 6-8 notches with a force of 44.1 lbs.
  22.  
  23. With the parking brake pedal completely disengaged, make sure there is no drag on the parking brake.
