Power Transistor (Ignition Module)

The power transistor is located on the front of the engine, in front of the distributor.

TESTING



See Figure 1

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Disconnect the electrical harness connector from the power transistor.
  4.  
  5. Using an ohmmeter, adjust the setting to the low range, approximately 1.0 ohms.
  6.  
  7. To test the power transistor, perform the following procedures:
    1. Place the positive probe on terminal a and the negative probe on terminal b ; there should be continuity.
    2.  
    3. Place the positive probe on terminal a and the negative probe on terminal c ; there should be continuity.
    4.  
    5. Place the negative probe on terminal a and the positive (+) probe on terminal b ; there should not be continuity.
    6.  
    7. Place the negative probe on terminal a and the positive (+) probe on terminal c ; there should not be continuity.

  1. If the power transistor does not perform according to the test, replace it.
  2.  
  3. Reconnect the electrical harness connector to the power transistor.
  4.  
  5. Connect the negative battery cable.
  6.  

REMOVAL & INSTALLATION



  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Disconnect the electrical harness connectors from the power transistor.
  4.  
  5. Remove the power transistor bolts and the transistor.
  6.  

To install:
  1. Install the power transistor and tighten the bolts.
  2.  
  3. Connect the electrical harness connectors to the power transistor.
  4.  
  5. Connect the negative battery cable.
  6.  
  7. Start the engine and check the operation.
  8.
