Power Transistor

Print

On VQ30DE engines, the power transistor is integrated with the individualized coils for each spark plug.

The power transistor on VE30DE is located next to the crankshaft position sensor, at the rear of the right cylinder bank.

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.
  3. Disconnect the electrical harness connector(s) from the power transistor.
  4.

If necessary, remove the power transistor from the engine.

  1. Using an ohmmeter, adjust it to the low range and perform the following procedures:
    1. Attach the positive probe to terminal d and with the negative probe, touch terminals a , b , c , e , f and g ; the resistance of each terminal should not be 0 or infinity.
    2.
    3. Attach the negative probe to terminal d and with the positive probe, touch terminals a , b , c , e , f and g ; the resistance of each terminal should not be 0 or infinity.
    4.
    5. Attach the positive probe to terminal d and with the negative probe, touch terminals 1 , 2 , 3 , 4 , 5 and 6 ; the resistance of each terminal should not be 0 or infinity.
    6.
    7. Attach the negative probe to terminal d and with the positive probe, touch terminals 1 , 2 , 3 , 4 , 5 and 6 ; the resistance of each terminal should be infinity.
    8.
    9. Attach the positive probe to terminal a and the negative probe to terminal 1 ; the resistance should not be 0 or infinity.
    10.
    11. Attach the negative probe to terminal a and the positive probe to terminal 1 ; the resistance should be infinity.
    12.
    13. Attach the positive probe to terminal b and the negative probe to terminal 2 ; the resistance should not be 0 or infinity.
    14.
    15. Attach the negative probe to terminal b and the positive probe to terminal 2 ; the resistance should be infinity.
    16.
    17. Attach the positive probe to terminal c and the negative probe to terminal 3 ; the resistance should not be 0 or infinity.
    18.
    19. Attach the negative probe to terminal c and the positive probe to terminal 3 ; the resistance should be infinity.
    20.
    21. Attach the positive probe to terminal e and the negative probe to terminal 4 ; the resistance should not be 0 or infinity.
    22.
    23. Attach the negative probe to terminal e and the positive probe to terminal 4 ; the resistance should be infintiy.
    24.
    25. Attach the positive probe to terminal f and the negative probe to terminal 5 ; the resistance should not be 0 or infinity.
    26.
    27. Attach the negative probe to terminal f and the positive probe to terminal 5 ; the resistance should be infinity.
    28.
    29. Attach the positive probe to terminal g and the negative probe to terminal 6 ; the resistance should not be 0 or infinity.
    30.
    31. Attach the negative probe to terminal g and the positive probe to terminal 6 ; the resistance should be infinity.
    32.

  2.
  3. If the any of the test results do not agree, replace the power transistor.
  4.
  5. Connect the electrical harness connectors to the power transistor.
  6.
  7. Connect the negative battery cable.
  8.
