REMOVAL & INSTALLATION



VG30E Engine

See Figure 1

  1. Remove all accessory drive belts and the alternator.
  2.  
  3. Remove the timing belt covers and remove the timing belt.
  4.  
  5. Drain the engine oil and remove the oil pan.
  6.  
  7. Remove the oil pump assembly-to-engine bolts, along with the oil strainer, and remove the assembly from the engine.

  1. Pack the oil pump full of petroleum jelly to prevent the pump from cavitating when the engine is started.
  2.  
  3. Install the oil pump and torque the oil pump-to-engine long bolts to 9-12 ft. lbs. (12-16 Nm) and short bolts to 4.3-5.1 ft. lbs. (6-7 Nm).
  4.  
  5. Using a new O-ring, install the strainer and torque the strainer-to-oil pump bolts to 12-15 ft. lbs. (16-21 Nm) and the strainer-to-engine bolt to 4.6-6.1 ft. lbs. (6.3-8.3 Nm).
  6.  
  7. Install the oil pan.
  8.  
  9. Install the timing belt and covers.
  10.  
  11. Install the alternator and all drive belts.
  12.  
  13. Start engine and check for oil leaks.

The oil pump is an integral part of the timing chain cover. The cylinder heads and the oil pan must be removed to remove the timing chain cover. Refer to the Timing Chain heading within this section for information on removal of the timing chain cover.

  1. Remove all accessory drive belts and the alternator.

  3. Remove the cylinder heads.
  4.  
  5. Remove the crankshaft damper-to-crankshaft bolt and the damper.
  6.  
  7. Drain the engine oil and remove the oil pan.
  8.  
  9. Remove the oil strainer-to-engine bolt, oil strainer-to-oil pump bolts and the strainer.
  10.  
  11. Remove the timing chain cover-to-engine bolts and the timing chain cover.
