REMOVAL & INSTALLATION

WARNING
To prevent damage to the vehicle, two people should perform this procedure.

  1. Open and support the trunk lid.
  2.  
  3. Matchmark the trunk lid hinges to the trunk lid for installation reference.
  4.  
  5. Note the spacing between the rear fender and trunk lid for alignment reference.
  6.  
  7. Protect the body with a cover to prevent damage to the paint.
  8.  
  9. Using a pry tool, carefully disengage the torsion bars.
  10.

CAUTION
The trunk torsion bars are under spring tension. Wear eye protection, and be careful.

  1. Carefully pry back the spring clip and push out the pivot pins.

Take care not to let the trunk lid slip when the bolts are removed.

  1. Remove the trunk lid from the vehicle.
  2.  

To install:
  1. Position the trunk lid on the vehicle and hand-tighten the retaining bolts.
  2.  
  3. Align the matchmarks and tighten the trunk lid bolts securely.
  4.  
  5. Carefully lower the trunk lid to check for proper alignment.
  6.  
  7. Adjust the trunk lid alignment as necessary.
  8.  

ALIGNMENT



  1. The trunk lid can be adjusted fore-and-aft and side-to-side by loosening the trunk lid bolts.
  2.  
  3. Reposition the trunk lid as required and tighten the trunk lid bolts securely.
  4.  
  5. To raise or lower the trunk lid in relation to the fenders, add spacers between the trunk lid and hinges.
  6.  
  7. Check the trunk lid lock (striker) alignment for proper trunk lid closing, and adjust as necessary.
