REMOVAL & INSTALLATION



See Figures 1 through 11

  1. Using a shop press and a suitable tool, press the hub with the inner race from the steering knuckle.
  2.  
  3. Using a shop press and a suitable tool, press the bearing inner race from the hub and remove the grease seal.
  4.  
  5. Using a prybar, pry the inner grease seal from the steering knuckle.
  6.  
  7. Using snapring pliers to remove the inner and outer snaprings from the steering knuckle.
  8.  
  9. Using a shop press and a suitable tool, press the bearing outer race from the steering knuckle.
  10.  
  11. Inspect the hub, steering knuckle and snaprings for cracks and/or wear; if necessary, replace the damaged part(s).

To install:
  1. Install the inner snapring in the steering knuckle groove.
  2.  
  3. Using a shop press and a suitable tool, press the new wheel bearing assembly into the steering knuckle, until it seats, using a maximum pressure of 3 tons.
  4.  
  5. Pack the new grease seal lip with multi-purpose grease.
  6.  
  7. Using a shop press and a suitable tool, press the new outer grease seal into the steering knuckle.
  8.

  1. Using a shop press and a suitable tool, press the new inner grease seal into the steering knuckle.
  2.  
  3. Using a shop press and a suitable tool, press the hub into the steering knuckle, until it seats, using a maximum pressure of 3 tons; be careful not to damage the grease seal.
  4.  
  5. To check the bearing operation, perform the following procedure:
    1. Increase the press pressure to 3.5-5.0 tons.
    2.  
    3. Spin the steering knuckle, several turns, in both directions.
    4.  
    5. Make sure the wheel bearings operate smoothly.
    6.
