  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Set the TEMP lever to the HOT position.
  4.  
  5. Drain and recycle the engine coolant.
  6.  
  7. Disconnect the heater hoses from the heater unit.
  8.  
  9. At this point, the manufacturer suggests you remove the front seats. To do this, remove the plastic covers over the ends of the seat runners, both front and back, to expose the seat mounting bolts. Remove the bolts and remove the seats.
  10.  
  11. Remove the console box and the floor carpets.
  12.  
  13. Remove the instrument panel lower covers from both the driver's and passenger's sides of the vehicle.
  14.  
  15. Remove the lower cluster lids.
  16.  
  17. Remove the left-hand side ventilator duct.
  18.  
  19. Remove the radio, sound balancer and stereo cassette deck, if equipped.
  20.  
  21. Remove the instrument panel stay.
  22.  
  23. Remove the rear heater duct from the floor of the vehicle.
  24.  
  25. Remove the center ventilator duct.
  26.  
  27. Remove the left and right-hand side air guides from the lower heater outlets.
  28.  
  29. Label and disconnect the electrical harness.
  30.  
  31. Remove the screws at the bottom sides of the heater unit and the screw at the top of the unit.
  32.  
  33. Remove the unit, together with the heater control assembly.
  34.  

On late model vehicles, the heater control cables and control assembly may have to be removed before the heater unit is removed. Always mark control cables before removing them to ensure correct adjustment and proper operation.

To install:
  1. Install the heater unit, together with the heater control assembly.
  2.  
  3. Install the screws at the bottom sides of the heater unit and the screw at the top of the unit.
  4.  
  5. Connect the electrical harness.
  6.  
  7. Install the left and right-hand side air guides on the lower heater outlets.
  8.  
  9. Install the center ventilator duct.
  10.  
  11. Position the rear heater duct on the floor of the vehicle.
  12.  
  13. Install the instrument panel stay.
  14.  
  15. Install the radio, sound balancer and stereo cassette deck, if equipped.
  16.  
  17. Install the left-hand side ventilator duct.
  18.  
  19. Install the instrument panel lower covers. Install the lower cluster lids.
  20.  
  21. Install the console and the floor carpets.
  22.  
  23. Install the front seats.
  24.  
  25. Connect the heater hoses to the heater unit.
  26.  
  27. Connect the negative battery cable.
  28.  
  29. Refill and bleed the engine with coolant.
  30.  
  31. Check for leaks. Adjust the coolant level as necessary.
