Nissan Maxima 1993-1998 Repair Guide

Torsion Beam, Lateral Link and Control Rod

See Figures 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5

This procedure applies to 1995-98 models only.

  1. Loosen the lug nuts.
  3. Raise and safely support the vehicle securely on jackstands. Remove the wheels.

Be sure to disconnect the ABS wheel sensor from the assembly. Failure to do so may result in damage to the sensor wire and the sensor becoming inoperative.

  1. Remove the brake calipers and suspend them with a piece of wire. Do not let them hang by the hose.
  3. Using a transmission jack, raise the torsion beam a little, then remove the suspension mounting bolts.
  5. Lower the jack and remove the suspension assembly.
  7. The lateral link and control rod can now be removed.
  9. Inspect the torsion beam and control rod for cracks, wear and deformation. The length of the lateral link and control rod is as follows:

    A-8.15-8.19 in. (207-208mm)
    B-15.51-15.55 in. (394-395mm)
    C-23.66-23.74 in. (601-603mm)
    D-4.17-4.25 in. (106-108mm)
