The vehicle identification plate is located on the cowl at the rear of the engine compartment. The plate contains the model type, engine capacity, maximum horsepower, wheelbase and the engine and chassis serial numbers.

The vehicle or chassis serial number is broken down as shown in the illustration. The vehicle identification number is also reproduced on a plate on the upper left surface of the instrument panel and can be seen from the outside through the windshield. The V.I.N. is broken down as follows:



First 3 digits/letters: Manufacturer
 
Fourth letter: Engine type (H=VG30E, E=VE30DE, C=VQ30DE)
 
Fifth letter: Vehicle line
 
Sixth digit: Model change number
 
Seventh digit: Body type (sedan)
 
Eighth letter: Restraint system (S means standard; P means automatic)
 
Ninth digit: Check digit
 
Tenth letter: Model year in a letter code
 
Eleventh letter: Manufacturing plant code
 
Last 6 digits: Vehicle serial (chassis) number
