Adjustment



The front wheel bearings are part of a unitized hub and are not adjustable.

The front wheel bearings are part of a unitized hub and are not adjustable. Move the wheel hub in the axial direction by hand. Make sure that there is no looseness of the wheel bearing. Axial end play is 0.002 inch or less.

Removal & Installation



  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions section.
  2.  
  3. Remove the wheel.
  4.  
  5. Remove brake caliper. Hang it in a place where it will not interfere with work.
  6.  
  7. Put alignment marks on disc rotor and wheel hub and bearing assembly, then remove disc rotor.
  8.  
  9. Remove wheel sensor from axle.
  10.  
  11. Remove parking cable and parking brake shoe from back plate.
  12.  
  13. Remove cotter pin. Then remove lock nut from halfshaft. (AWD models)
  14.  
  15. Using a puller (suitable tool), remove wheel hub and bearing assembly from halfshaft. (AWD models)
  16.  
  17. Remove wheel hub and bearing assembly from axle.
  18.  
  19. Loosen bolts and nuts of front lower link, radius rod and rear lower link in side of suspension member.
  20.  
  21. Remove shock absorber bolt (lower), front lower link bolt and nut (axle-side) while supporting rear lower link with jack.
  22.  
  23. Remove bolt and nut in axle side of rear lower link. Then remove coil spring.
  24.  
  25. Remove bolt and nut in axle side of radius rod.
  26.  
  27. Remove suspension arm and cotter pin at axle, then loosen mounting nut.
  28.  
  29. Use a ball joint remover (suitable tool) to remove suspension arm from axle. Be careful not to damage ball joint boot.
  30.  


NOTE
To prevent damage to threads and to prevent ball joint remover (suitable tool) from coming off suddenly, and temporarily tighten mounting nut.

  1. Remove axle from vehicle.
  2.  
  3. Remove nuts from anchor block, then remove anchor block and back plate from axle.
  4.  
  5. Remove axle cap (2WD) or dust shield (AWD) from axle.
  6.  
  7. Check for deformity, cracks and damage on each parts, replace if necessary.
  8.  
  9. Check for boot breakage, axial looseness, and torque of suspension arm ball joint.
  10.  
  11. Installation is the reverse of removal.
  12.  
  13. Perform final tightening of installation position of suspension links (rubber bushing) under unladen conditions with tires on level ground.
  14.  

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.

  3. Raise and support the vehicle safely. Remove the tire and wheel assembly.
  4.  
  5. Remove brake caliper. Hang it in a place where it will not interfere with work.
  6.  
  7. Put alignment marks on disc rotor and wheel hub and bearing assembly, then remove disc rotor.
  8.  
  9. Remove wheel sensor from axle. Do not pull on the wheel speed sensor harness.
  10.  
  11. Remove parking cable and parking brake shoe from back plate.
  12.  
  13. Remove cotter pin. Then remove lock nut from halfshaft. (AWD vehicles)
  14.  
  15. Using a puller (suitable tool), remove wheel hub and bearing assembly from halfshaft. (AWD vehicles)
  16.  
  17. Remove wheel hub and bearing assembly from axle.
  18.  
  19. Loosen bolts and nuts of front lower link, radius rod and rear lower link in side of suspension member.
  20.  
  21. Remove shock absorber bolt (lower), front lower link bolt and nut (axle-side) while supporting rear lower link with jack.
  22.  
  23. Remove bolt and nut in axle side of rear lower link. Then remove coil spring.
  24.  
  25. Remove bolt and nut in axle side of radius rod.
  26.  
  27. Remove suspension arm and cotter pin at axle, then loosen mounting nut.
  28.  
  29. Use a ball joint remover (suitable tool) to remove suspension arm from axle. Be careful not to damage ball joint boot.
    NOTE
    To prevent damage to threads and to prevent ball joint remover (suitable tool) from coming off suddenly, and temporarily tighten mounting nut.

  30.  
  31. Remove axle from vehicle.
  32.  
  33. Remove nuts from anchor block, then remove anchor block and back plate from axle.
  34.  
  35. Remove axle cap (2WD) or dust shield (AWD) from the axle.
  36.  

To install:

  1. Check for deformity, cracks and damage on each parts, replace if necessary.
  2.  
  3. Check for boot breakage, axial looseness, and torque of suspension arm ball joint.
  4.  
  5. Installation is the reverse of the removal procedure.
  6.  
  7. Be sure to replace all non reusable components with new ones.
    NOTE
    Perform final tightening of installation position of suspension links (rubber bushing) under unladen conditions with tires on level ground.

  8.  
  9. Check and adjust the rear alignment, as necessary.
  10.
