Inspection

3.3L Engine
  1. Inspect belt for cracks, fraying, wear and oil and replace if necessary.
  2.
  3. Inspect drive belt deflection or tension at a point on the belt midway between pulleys.
  4.
  5. Check belt tension using belt tension gauge (BT3373-F or equivalent).
    NOTE
Inspect drive belt deflection or tension when engine is cold. Adjust if belt deflections exceed the limit or if belt tension is not within specifications.

Removal & Installation

3.3L & 3.5L Engines
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.
  3. Loosen the pivot bolt, then loosen the locknut of the adjusting bolt for the belt that you want to remove.
  4.
  5. Turn the adjusting bolt fully to achieve the maximum amount of slack.
  6.
  7. Remove the belt from the pulleys, one pulley at a time.
  8.

To install:

  1. Install the belt around the pulleys, beginning with the largest pulley first.
  2.
  3. Follow the adjustment procedure to correctly tension the belt.
  4.
  5. Tighten the pivot bolt, then tighten the locknut of the adjusting bolt.
  6.
  7. Check the belt tension. If the belt tension is not within specification, repeat the adjustment procedures until the proper belt tension is achieved.
