Lower Control Arms

Bushing Replacement



  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.  
  3. Remove the control arm from the vehicle.
  4.  
  5. Remove the control arm bushing with a press.
  6.  

To install:

  1. Lubricate the control arm bushings with liquid soap.
  2.  
  3. Install the bushings with a press.
  4.  
  5. Install the control arm to the vehicle.
  6.  
  7. Check the wheel alignment and adjust, as necessary.
  8.  

Removal & Installation



  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.  
  3. Remove the or disconnect the following:

    Front wheel
     
    Torsion bar
     
    Shock absorber
     
    Stabilizer bar link
     
    Axle halfshaft, if equipped with 4-Wheel Drive
     
    Lower ball joint
     
    Control arm mounting bolts
     
    Lower control arm
     

  4.  

To install:

  1. Install or connect the following:

    Lower control arm. Tighten the mount bolts to 80-105 ft. lbs. (108-142 Nm) for 2001; 69-96 ft. lbs. (94-130 Nm) for 2002-04 models.
     
    Lower ball joint. Tighten the nut to 87-141 ft. lbs. (118-191 Nm) for 2001; 87-123 ft. lbs. (118-167 Nm) for 2002-04 models.
     
    Axle halfshaft, if equipped
     
    Stabilizer bar link
     
    Shock absorber
     
    Torsion bar
     
    Front wheel
     

  2.  
  3. Check the wheel alignment and adjust, as necessary.
  4.
