Removal & Installation

3.3L (1998 & Later) & 3.5L Engines



  1. Raise and safely support the vehicle.
  2.  
  3. Remove the undercover.
  4.  
  5. Remove the suspension member stay.
  6.  
  7. Drain the coolant from radiator.
  8.  
  9. Disconnect the upper and lower radiator hoses.
  10.  
  11. Remove the upper and lower radiator shroud.
  12.  
  13. If equipped with an automatic transmission, remove A/T oil cooler hoses.
  14.  
  15. Disconnect the reservoir tank hose.
  16.  
  17. Remove the radiator mounting bracket.
  18.  
  19. Remove the radiator.
  20.  
  21. After repairing or replacing radiator, install any part removed in reverse order of removal. Fill the engine with the proper type and amount of coolant.

3.3L Engine



  1. Raise and safely support the vehicle.
  2.  
  3. Remove the undercover.
  4.  
  5. Lower the vehicle.
  6.  
  7. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  8.  
  9. Remove the radiator drain plug and drain the coolant. Be sure to properly dispose of the old coolant.
  10.  
  11. Remove the air duct (From the mass air flow sensor to the throttle body).
  12.  
  13. Disconnect the upper and lower radiator hoses.
  14.  
  15. If equipped with an automatic transmission, remove A/T oil cooler hoses.
  16.  
  17. Remove the lower radiator shroud.
  18.  
  19. Disconnect the reservoir tank hose.
  20.  
  21. Remove the radiator from its mounting.
  22.  

To install:

  1. Installation is the reverse of the removal procedure.
  2.  
  3. Be sure to use new coolant.
  4.  
  5. Start the engine and check for leaks. Correct as required.

4.0L Engine



  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Remove the engine cover.
    CAUTION
    Make sure the engine is cold before draining the coolant! Do not spill coolant on the drive belts.

  5. Drain the engine coolant.
  6.  
  7. Remove the air duct and air cleaner case assembly.
  8.  
  9. Remove the coolant reservoir tank hose.
  10.  
  11. Disconnect the upper and lower radiator hoses and the reservoir tank hose.
  12.  
  13. Remove the radiator cooling fan assembly, as outlined in this section.
  14.  
  15. Disconnect A/T fluid cooler hoses, then plug the hoses to prevent fluid from leaking out.
  16.  
  17. Remove the upper mount bracket bolts.

  19. Remove the two A/C condenser bolts.

  21. Remove radiator as follows:
    WARNING
    Do not damage or scratch A/C condenser and radiator core when removing.

    1. While carefully lifting and moving the radiator toward the rear of the vehicle, disassemble the lower mount from radiator core support center.
      WARNING
      Because A/C condenser is onto the front-lower portion of radiator, moving to rear direction should be at minimum.

    3. Lift the A/C condenser up and remove radiator after disengaging the fitting as front-bottom surface.
      WARNING
      A/C condenser movement should be kept to a minimum to prevent a bending the A/C lines.

    5. After removing radiator, place the A/C condenser on radiator core support center to prevent a load to the A/C lines, and temporarily secure it with a rope or wire.

  23. Installation is in the reverse order of removal. Fill the engine with coolant, then start the engine and check to make sure there are no coolant or A/T leaks.
