The clutch driven disc contains asbestos, which has been determined to be a cancer causing agent. Never clean clutch surfaces with compressed air. Avoid inhaling any dust from any clutch surface. When cleaning clutch surfaces, use a commercially available brake cleaning fluid.
See Figures 1, 2 and 3
The pedal height measurement is gauged from the angle section of the floorboard to the center of the clutch pedal pad.
Adjust the pedal height by loosening the locknut on the pedal stopper, clutch switch or ASCD switch and turning the adjusting bolt to provide the following specified heights:
1970-73: 5.90 in. (150mm)
1974-77: 6.02 in. (153mm)
1978-80: 6.41 in. (163mm)
1981-82 Z22: 6.73 in. (171mm)
1981-82 SD22: 7.16 in. (182mm)
1983 Z22 6.61 in. (168mm)
1983 SD22: 7.04 in. (179mm)
1984-86 Z20 and Z24: 7.24 in. (184mm)
1986-88 Z24i and SD25: 9.29-9.68 in. (236-246mm)
1986-88 VG30i: 8.93-9.33 in. (227-237mm)

The free-play measurement is the total travel of the clutch pedal from the fully released position to where resistance is felt as the pedal is pushed downward.
Adjust the pedal free-play by loosening the pushrod locknut and turning the clevis. free-play is as follows:
1970-77: 0.078 in. (2mm)
1978-84: 0.012 in. (3mm)
1985-88: 0.039-0.059 in. (1-1.5mm)

See Figures 4 and 5
Check the clearance between the threaded end of the clutch interlock switch and the pedal stopper bracket when the clutch pedal is fully depressed. Clearance should be 0.011-0.039 in. (0.3-1.0mm).
