Fuel System Pressure

Never smoke when working around gasoline! Avoid all sources of sparks or ignition. Gasoline vapors are EXTREMELY volatile!Any time the fuel system is being worked on always keep a dry chemical (Class B) fire extinguisher near the work area.

See Figures 1 and 2

  1. Remove the fuel pump fuse from the fuse block, fuel pump relay or disconnect the harness connector at the tank while engine is running.
  3. It should run and then stall when the fuel in the lines is exhausted. When the engine stops, crank the starter a few times for about 5 seconds to make sure all pressure in the fuel lines is released.
  5. Install the fuel pump fuse, relay or harness connector after repair is made.
  7. On some late models the "Check Engine Light" will stay on after test has been completed. The memory code in the control unit must be erased. To erase the code disconnect the battery cable for 10 seconds then reconnect.
