Any serious do-it-yourselfer should obtain a hydraulic floor jack. This tool is the easiest and safest way to raise a vehicle for service. But keep in mind that a jack is ONLY to raise or lower a vehicle and NOT to support it while working. Once the vehicle is raised using a jack, safety stands or ramps must be used to safely support the truck.

Your truck is equipped with either a scissors type jack, or a bumper jack. The scissor-type jack is placed under the side of the truck so that it fits into the notch in the vertical rocker panel flange nearest the wheel to be changed. These jacking notches are located approximately 8" (203 mm) from the wheel opening on the rocker panel flanges. Bumper jack slots or flats are provided on the front and rear bumper. Be sure the jack is inserted firmly and is straight before raising the vehicle.

When raising the truck with a scissors or bumper jack follow these precautions: Park the truck on level spot, put the selector in P (PARK) with an automatic transmission or in reverse if your truck has a manual transmission, apply the parking brake and block the front and the back of the wheel that is diagonally opposite the wheel being changed. These jacks are fine for changing a tire, but never crawl under the truck when it is supported only by a jack.


CAUTION
If you're going to work beneath the vehicle, always support it on jackstands.
