R-ABS Control Unit (Module)

See Figures 1 and 2

The R-ABS control module is the electronic heart of the system. It is located below the right-side dashboard and is connected to the R-ABS control harness.

The control module receives inputs from the ignition, the brake lamp switch, the wheel speed sensor, and the brake fluid level switch. It controls output to the hydraulic unit solenoid valves and the amber dash warning lamp.

The R-ABS module performs system tests and self-tests during start-up and normal operation. The solenoid valve, fluid level and speed sensor are monitored for correct operation. If a fault is found, the module will immediately disable the anti-lock function and light the amber ANTI-LOCK dash warning lamp.

The module will assign a fault code and store it in memory. The code may be retrieved by placing the system into diagnostic mode. Codes will only be displayed when the dash warning lamp is lit. A stored code will be erased when the ignition is switched OFF . If the problem exists when the engine is restarted, the self-check will note the fault and again set the code.

  1. Turn the ignition switch OFF .
  3. Remove the bolts holding the module to its bracket.
  5. Carefully disconnect the multi-pin harness from the module, then remove the module.
  7. Reassemble in the reverse order, making certain the multi-pin connector is firmly engaged and the connector lock is secured.
