Removal & Installation



3.3L Engines
  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions section.
  2.  
  3. Drain the cooling system.
  4.  
  5. Relieve the fuel system pressure.
  6.  
  7. Remove or disconnect the following:

    Negative battery cable
     
    Air intake duct
     
    Idle Air Control (IAC) valve connectors
     
    Throttle Position (TP) sensor and switch connectors
     
    Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) solenoid valve connector
     
    Evaporative Emissions (EVAP) canister vacuum and purge hoses
     
    Water, heater and Positive Crankcase Ventilation (PCV) valve hoses
     
    Vacuum hoses from the EVAP canister, brake cylinder, pressure regulator and EGR tube
     
    Spark plug wires
     
    Distributor cap
     
    3 left bank injector connectors
     
    Thermal transmitter
     
    Ground harness
     
    Breather pipe
     
    Upper manifold
     
    Fuel feed and return lines from the fuel rail
     
    Right injector harness connectors
     
    Fuel rail and injectors
     
    Coolant temperature switch harness connector
     
    Water hose from the thermostat
     
    Lower manifold bolts in the sequence illustrated.
     
    Manifold gasket and discard

  1. Install the lower intake manifold with a new gasket.
    1. Step 1: 35 inch lbs. (4 Nm)
    2.  
    3. Step 2: 78 inch lbs. (9 Nm)
    4.  
    5. Step 3: 70-84 inch lbs. (8-10 Nm)
    6.

  3. Install or connect the following:

    ECT sensor connector
     
    Fuel supply manifold
     
    Right bank injector connectors
     
    Fuel lines
     
    Upper intake manifold
     
    Breather pipe
     
    Upper intake manifold ground cable
     
    Thermal transmitter
     
    Left bank injector connectors
     
    Distributor
     
    Spark plug wires
     
    EGR tube
     
    Fuel pressure regulator vacuum hose
     
    Brake booster vacuum hose
     
    EVAP canister vacuum and purge hoses
     
    PCV valve and hose
     
    Heater hoses
     
    Radiator hoses
     
    EGR temperature sensor connector
     
    EGR solenoid valve connector
     
    Ignition coil and power transistor connectors
     
    TP sensor and switch connectors
     
    IAC valve connector
     
    Cruise control cable
     
    Accelerator cable
     
    Air intake duct
     
    Negative battery cable
     

  4.  
  5. Fill the cooling system.
  6.  
  7. Start the engine and check for leaks.
  8.  

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the precautions section.
  2.  
  3. Drain the cooling system.
  4.  
  5. Relieve the fuel system pressure.
  6.  
  7. Remove or disconnect the following:

    Negative battery cable
     
    Air intake duct
     
    Idle Air Control (IAC) valve connectors
     
    Throttle Position (TP) sensor and switch connectors
     
    Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) solenoid valve connector
     
    Evaporative Emissions (EVAP) canister vacuum and purge hoses
     
    Water, heater and Positive Crankcase Ventilation (PCV) valve hoses
     
    Vacuum hoses from the EVAP canister, brake cylinder, pressure regulator and EGR tube
     
    Spark plug wires
     
    Distributor cap
     
    3 left bank injector connectors
     
    Thermal transmitter
     
    Ground harness
     
    Breather pipe
     
    Upper manifold
     
    Fuel feed and return lines from the fuel rail
     
    Right injector harness connectors
     
    Fuel rail and injectors
     
    Coolant temperature switch harness connector
     
    Water hose from the thermostat
     
    Lower manifold bolts in the sequence illustrated.
     
    Manifold gasket and discard

  1. Install the lower intake manifold with a new gasket.
    1. Step 1: 35 inch lbs. (4 Nm)

    EVAP canister vacuum and purge hoses
     
    PCV valve and hose
     
    Heater hoses
     
    Radiator hoses
     
    EGR temperature sensor connector
     
    EGR solenoid valve connector
     
    Ignition coil and power transistor connectors
     
    TP sensor and switch connectors
     
    IAC valve connector
     
    Cruise control cable
     
    Accelerator cable
     
    Air intake duct
     
    Negative battery cable
     

  4.  
  5. Fill the cooling system.
  6.  
  7. Start the engine and check for leaks.
  8.  

3.5L Engine
  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions section.
  2.  
  3. Relieve the fuel system pressure.
  4.  
  5. Remove the intake manifold collector.
  6.  
  7. Remove the fuel rail with the fuel injectors as an assembly.
  8.  
  9. Loosen the intake manifold nuts and bolts in the sequence illustrated.
  10.  
  11. Remove the intake manifold.
  12.  

To install:

  1. Install the intake manifold. Tighten the intake manifold nuts and bolts in the sequence illustrated in the following steps:-
    1. Stud bolts: 96 inch lbs. (10 Nm).
    2.  
    3. Manifold bolts first pass: 65 inch lbs. (7 Nm).
    4.  
    5. Manifold bolts second pass: 21 ft. lbs. (29 Nm).

  3. Install the fuel rail with the fuel injectors as an assembly.
  4.  
  5. Install the intake manifold collector.
  6.  

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the precautions section.
  2.  
  3. Relieve the fuel system pressure.
  4.  
  5. Remove the intake manifold collector.
  6.  
  7. Remove the fuel rail with the fuel injectors as an assembly.
  8.  
  9. Loosen the intake manifold nuts and bolts in the sequence illustrated.
  10.  
  11. Remove the intake manifold.
  12.  

To install:

  1. Install the intake manifold. Tighten the intake manifold nuts and bolts in the sequence illustrated in the following steps:-
    1. Stud bolts: 96 inch lbs. (10 Nm).
    2.  
    3. Manifold bolts first pass: 65 inch lbs. (7 Nm).
    4.  
    5. Manifold bolts second pass: 21 ft. lbs. (29 Nm).
    6.

  3. Install the fuel rail with the fuel injectors as an assembly.
  4.  
  5. Install the intake manifold collector.
