  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the precautions section.
  2.  
  3. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  4.  
  5. Discharge refrigerant into refrigerant recycling equipment.
  6.  
  7. Drain and recycle the engine coolant.
  8.  
  9. Remove the cowl top extension.
  10.  
  11. Remove the exhaust system.
  12.  
  13. Disconnect the front heater hoses from the front heater core.
  14.  
  15. Disconnect the high/low pressure pipe from the front expansion valve.
  16.  
  17. Move the two front seats to the rearmost position on the seat track.
  18.  
  19. Remove the instrument panel and console panel.
  20.  
  21. Remove the steering column.
  22.  
  23. Disconnect the instrument panel wire harness at the RH and LH in-line connector brackets, and the fuse block (J/B) electrical connectors.
  24.  
  25. Disconnect the steering member from each side of the vehicle body.
  26.  
  27. Remove the front heater and cooling unit assembly with it attached to the steering member, from the vehicle.
    CAUTION
    Use care not to damage the seats and interior trim panels when removing the front heater and cooling unit assembly with it attached to the steering member.

  29. Remove the front heater and cooling unit assembly from the steering member.
  30.  

To install:

  1. To install, reverse removal procedure.
  2.  
  3. Replace the O-ring of the low-pressure flexible hose and high-pressure flexible hose with a new one, and apply compressor oil to it when installing it.
  4.  
  5. After charging the refrigerant, check for leaks.
  6.  
  7. Fill the engine cooling system with the specified coolant mixture.
  8.  
  9. Recharge the A/C system.
  10.  

Rear



  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the precautions section.
  2.  
  3. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  4.  
  5. Discharge refrigerant into refrigerant recycling equipment.
  6.  
  7. Drain and recycle the engine coolant.
  8.  
  9. Disconnect the rear heater core hoses from the rear heater core.
  10.  
  11. Disconnect the rear A/C pipes from the rear expansion valve.
  12.  
  13. Remove the rear RH interior trim panel.
  14.  
  15. Disconnect the rear blower motor, rear blower motor resistor and rear air mix door motor electrical connectors.
  16.  
  17. Disconnect the ducts from the rear heater and cooling unit assembly.
  18.  
  19. Remove the rear heater and cooling unit assembly.
  20.  

To install:

  1. To install, reverse removal procedure.
  2.  
  3. Replace the O-ring of the low-pressure flexible hose and high-pressure flexible hose with a new one, and apply compressor oil to it when installing it.
  4.  
  5. After charging the refrigerant, check for leaks.
  6.  
  7. Fill the engine cooling system with the specified coolant mixture.
  8.  
  9. Recharge the A/C system.
  10.
