3.3L Engine



  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions section.
  2.  
  3. Check for trouble codes and make necessary repairs if needed.
  4.  
  5. Apply the parking brake and be sure that the vehicle is in PARK.
  6.  
  7. Start and run the engine until it reaches normal operating temperature.
  8.  
  9. Run the engine at about 2000 rpm for 2 minutes under no-load.
  10.  
  11. Turn off all electrical loads.
  12.  
  13. Disconnect the Throttle Position (TP) sensor electrical connector.
  14.  
  15. Be sure the engine speed is 700-800 rpm.
  16.  
  17. Rev the engine 2 or 3 times to 2,000-3,000 rpm and return the engine to idle speed.
  18.  
  19. Connect a timing light to the No. 1 cylinder spark plug wire at the distributor end and check the ignition timing. Be sure that the timing pointer is pointing to the 15° BTDC mark on the crankshaft pulley.

    Fig. Adjust the timing so the pointer on the engine indicates 15° before top dead center (3 notches from TDC) on the crankshaft pulley.



NOTE
Each notch on the crankshaft pulley represents 5°.

  1. If the timing is not within the specification, loosen the distributor mounting bolt and adjust the distributor until the timing is at the proper specification.

  3. Tighten the distributor mounting bolt to 10-12 ft. lbs., (14-17 Nm).

  5. Stop the engine and connect the TP sensor.
