The wheel bearings are not adjustable. If the bearings become loose or make noise, they must be replaced using the following procedure.

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions section.
  2.  
  3. Raise and safely support the vehicle.
  4.  
  5. Remove the rear wheel(s).
  6.  
  7. Remove the brake drum.
  8.  
  9. Remove the grease cap for the hub.
  10.  
  11. Remove and discard the cotter pin.
  12.  
  13. Remove the wheel bearing nut and washer.
  14.  
  15. Remove the rear wheel hub and bearing assembly.
  16.  

To install:

  1. Install the rear wheel hub and bearing assembly onto the vehicle.
  2.  
  3. Install the rear wheel bearing washer and nut and tighten the bearing nut to 159-210 ft. lbs. (216-284 Nm). Install a new cotter pin.
  4.  
  5. Install the wheel hub grease cap. Install the brake drum.
  6.  
  7. Install the rear wheel(s) and lug nuts. Tighten the lug nuts, in a star sequence, to 72-87 ft. lbs. (98-118 Nm).
  8.  
  9. Lower the vehicle.

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the precautions section.

  5. Remove the rear wheel(s).

  13. Remove the wheel bearing nut and washer.

  15. Remove the rear wheel hub and bearing assembly.

To install:

  1. Install the rear wheel hub and bearing assembly onto the vehicle.
  2.  
  3. Install the rear wheel bearing washer and nut and tighten the bearing nut to 159-210 ft. lbs. (216-284 Nm). Install a new cotter pin.
  4.  
  5. Install the wheel hub grease cap. Install the brake drum.
  6.  
  7. Install the rear wheel(s) and lug nuts. Tighten the lug nuts, in a star sequence, to 72-87 ft. lbs. (98-118 Nm).
  8.  
  9. Lower the vehicle.

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the precautions section.
  2.  
  3. Remove the rear wheel.
  4.  
  5. Remove the brake caliper assembly without disconnecting the hydraulic line and suspend the caliper aside using wire.
  6.  
  7. Release the parking brake and remove the rotor.
  8.  
  9. Remove the rear ABS sensor, then position it aside using wire.
  10.  
  11. Remove the wheel hub assembly from the knuckle.
  12.  
  13. Check for cracks, and damage on the wheel hub assembly and replace as necessary.
  14.  

To install:

  1. Installation is in the reverse order of removal. Tighten the wheel hub bolts to 44 ft. lbs. (60 Nm).
  2.  
  3. Check that the wheel bearing operates smoothly.
  4.  
  5. Check that the wheel hub bearing axial end play is within 0.004 inch (0.1mm) or less using a dial indicator.
