SECONDARY SPARK TEST
Using a spark tester, verify that spark is present at a plug wire. If a spark tester is unavailable, you can test for spark as follows:
- Disconnect a spark plug wire from the spark plug.
- Wrap a thick, dry cloth around the spark plug wire boot and hold the end of the wire approximately 1 / 4 in. (6mm) from a good electrical ground.
- Using a remote starter switch, or with the help of an assistant, crank the engine while observing the end of the spark plug wire. A strong blue spark should be observed jumping the gap between the wire and the ground. If a weak spark or no spark is present, the ignition coil may be faulty. Test the ignition coil, as described later in this section.
- Reconnect the spark plug wire.
