REMOVAL & INSTALLATION

  1. Remove or disconnect any electrical lines, hoses or tubes which may interfere with the removal procedures.
  2.

It may be necessary to remove the air cleaner (carburetor models) or the air duct (EFI and turbo models).

  1. Remove the rocker arm cover-to-cylinder head acorn nuts on E-Series engines or the mounting screws on others engines, then lift the cover from the cylinder head.
  2.
  3. Use a gasket scraper or putty knife to clean the gasket mounting surfaces.
  4.

To install:
  1. Apply a new gasket and/or RTV sealant, then position the rocker arm cover. Torque the cover-to-cylinder head bolts to 8.4-13.2 inch lbs. (1.0-1.5 Nm) or the acorn nuts to 35-70 inch lbs. (4-8 Nm). On the SR20DE engine, first tighten bolts 1, 10, 11, 13 and 8 to 35 inch lbs. (4 Nm). Then tighten all bolts in proper sequence to 72-84 inch lbs. (8-9 Nm).
  2.

When using RTV sealant, make sure the surface you are working on is very clean before applying the sealant, then apply an even bead. The cover MUST be torqued before the RTV dries; a thin skin is OK.
